I have about 6K miles (9600 Km) on my rear tire and it's starting to look worn.
Is this about right for tire replacement?
What's the latest on the best deal for a rocket rear tire?
I've searched and saw that Dunlop and Avon have yet to make a 240-50-VR16 tire.
Is Metzler still the way to go?
Thanks

From what I have seen at this site you are doing on the lower average for the mileage on the Rocket tire. Must be doing some racing and showing off?
My honey bear got around 7,000 miles. He said it was doing ok he thought just showing normal wear then all of the sudden it was very worn.
We just changed mine out yesterday at 7,900 miles. Mostly did it cause we are fixing to go to rally in northern east Texas and I am leaving here the day after everyone else. Traveling by myself and he was worrying about me having an emergency problem enroute. Otherwise, we probably would have gone another thousand or so.
We have a friend that within the first probably 4,000 miles shoved a big rock through it and had to replace whole tire. Then two days after putting a car tire on it to experiment had a blow out. He put a differant car tire on (the one mentioned here on some earlier posts) and his thrilled with it and the handling.
I am thinking we got our spare Rocket tires from Parts plus. But since we are making change to car tire won't have to get them there. We still have one more Rocket tire on hand for me and a car tire ready to be put on honey bear's bike. We bought them several months ago so can't help you with current prices.

You and your honey must have more restraint than me, but I am an old hotrodder and drag racer from way back.

I've taken it easy on the back tire and have 5000 + miles with no sign of excessive wear. My expectation is 8000 miles.

Wilbur-t,
Yeh, I guess we do. Alot of our problem is we live in the whitetail deer capital of the world. So unless you have a real clear path to see them or the DPS we exercise a certain amount of caution. Also, My honey says he is too old to be having to prove himself. And with me it is pure lack of experience. I have only been riding for a little over year and half. So only flying I do is roll-on type. No spinning tires there. He also says with my lighter weight I won't go through as many tires as he will.

5000 miles or 8000 k's (whichever comes first, as a moron once posted here  ) is a reasonable interval to me for the rear rubber. But then again, I tend to erase the chicken strips before wearing the center thread out

Believe me Jamie, there aren't any chicken strips on my tires. Half of my little curb feelers on the pegs are gone too. [Forgot what you call those little doodads.....oops, sorry bout that word, Jamie!]

You are wise to be cautious. A lady rider was killed this year near my house after hitting a deer and being thrown into oncoming traffic. Ride safe, for you are our Sunshine, our only Sunshine! You make us happy.....

Curb feelers? One fourth of my PEGS are gone, Wilbur. Previous set lasted me less than 3000 miles. Wear parts.
