I'm about to install a side mounted license plate holder on my Rocket and I want to eliminate the stock turn signals and install Kurakyn bullet signals on the rear fender. Has anyone attempted this or does anyone know of potential problems from doing this. I would imagine it would be straight forward but thought I would check with the masses before going ahead. Any remarks would be appreciated.

What do you mean by "installing them on the rear fender?" If you are talking about installing them on the rear fender rail, you will have no problem other than I think you will need a longer hollow bolt than the one that comes with the lights. This of course will make mounting saddle bags impossible (or at least VERY tricky! LOL)

If you are really going to install them directly onto the fenders, this is a little more tricky. There is no perpendicular flush area to mount them on, so if you just slap them on the bike, they will be at an angle and not point straight backward.

What I did was cut a steal washer into 1/3rds and welded it to one side (the forward side of the bold when the light is mounted) to shim the bolt so that it sticks straight out from the fender. Then I used dense black rubber stoppers cut to just the right angle to make rubber washers to fill in the angled gap between the light and the fender.

You'll also want to replace your stock flasher with a 3 pole IC type electronic flasher or you turn signals will flash very rapidly due to the reduced load of the led lights.

I mounted them on the fender rails and then moved them to the chopped license plate bracket I made. Both are posted in my album at the member maintained, p-r, rocketvet page. You need a load equilizer mounted inline which is no big deal and fixes the speedy flasher issue. They are actually quite bright at night but less visible during the day.

Thanks a bunch guys. I didn't know about the lights flashing too quickly and I will certainly make use of your suggestions and solutions. Thanks again.

Use of the fender rails interferes with my saddle bag and luggage rack (picnic table!) that I use when traveling. With the lights mounted directly to the fender and further back I can still mount my travel / touring accessories.
