I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen. I was accelerating in first gear, I was listening but not watching the tach, when the engine felt like it intermittently shut down. I immediately looked down and noticed I was near 5500+ RPM. I tried to repeat it by raising the RPM back to 5500, no more, but nothing happened. Any ideas?

Thanks for your thoughts

Sorry, can't help. Mine will cut power a little past 6500, but not at 5500.

Did it feel like spark, fuel, or both cutting out?

Possibly your revs were higher than you thought and you hit the rev limiter? Sometimes the tach doesn't quite keep pace with the actual rpm's also, ie the rpm's can climb faster than the entire tach system can move.

If you hit the rev limiter (which is easy to do in first) it will momentarily shut the engine down until it falls back under the "safe " rpm level (6500 rpm's?) and then the engine will kick back on. As it exceeds the 6500 mark again it will turn back off. It will almost seem like the engine is bouncing off of a ceiling.
