Hey everybody,
Thanks for the great input on the K&N question. Appreciate it! Got another one for ya all.
My issue is this...When I downshift, my heel has to come up in the air. That peg that my heel rests on needs to be raised about 2 1/2", and things will be perfect.
Am I dreaming? Can this be done? If I got the Triumph floorboards, would that make things easier for me? Can the floorboards be better manipulated than the pegs?
Thanks,
Tall Tx Guy

Your foot must be at a different angle because you are so tall. If you need to come up two inches or so maybe you could fabricate a new foot peg that has a riser built into it... or is adjustable.

Maybe just to see if thats what you really need you could take a two inch square piece of wood that is the same length as the foot peg and strap it on top of the footpeg with two radiator hose clamps... go out for a very careful test ride and see if it works for you. If that helps swing by a welders shop and show them.. maybe they could work something up for you.

With the kind of angle your foot is at I have no idea if floorboards would help or not. Does you dearer have a Classic you can sit on..(They have Triumph floor boards).

I'm 6'4" and have a 13 boot size. There is a pair of shoes that really limited my range of motion when down shifting so I don't wear them now.

I don't know if your bike was new or used but it's possible the foot peg/shifter/shifter mounting bar is bent. Also you can try adjusting the shifter down some and see if that helps.

The height of the shifter in relation to the peg is easily adjustable. The threaded rod has a left and a right handed thread so that spinning the rod once the lock nuts are loosened is all that is needed. HTH

GM Tall Texas Guy,

Our beloved Moderator is on the right track, it is the relationship between your feet, legs and rear that is causing the problem. By raising the seat height using the longest shocks available will fix your shift problem. I have five inches and two shoe sizes on you, and prior to going with the 13.5 shocks - I was going exactly where you are - trying to fix the shifter by moving it forward and expanding it. The bike will fit you now without changing the shifter and the ride will be remarkable.

Please consider this option.

TallRocket,
Sounds good. Everybody keeps talking about Progressives? Is that a brand name or a type of shock? What brand name of shocks do you have?
So far as raising the seat a tad, did you buy a Triumph seat? If not, what kind did you get?
My legs thank you!

Alot of people have switched to Progressives before giving the stock shocks a chance to break in. I've got about 2700 miles on mine now, and truthfully, I think the stock shocks are doing alot better than when I first rode it.

I believe my comments about my first ride were something to the effect of "I've ridden hard tail bikes with better rear suspension", but lately, I haven't even thought about the rear suspension. The shocks seem to be doing alot better than at first.

I don't know what the big deal is. Maybe my roads are smoother. Seems unlikely since this is Nevada.
