I was just curious to hear what some of your favorite driving/motorcycle songs were?

I love "Life is a Highway" by Tom Cochran just for blasting down the road, but my fav. motorcycle song has to be "I'm The Other Kind" written by Steve Earle. The version that I like best is by the Brothers Phelps. Here's a little quote.

Quote:
Nowadays I got me two good wheels,
and I seek refuge in aluminum and steel,
It takes me out there for just a little while,
and the years fall away with every mile.

My all time favorite? "L' Homme Ă* la Moto" (1956) by the iconic French Singer Edith Piaf. That number was actually translated almost "as is" from an unduly forgotten American song titled "Black Denim Trousers and Motorcycle Boots"(*) (1954 or 55), authored by the talented J. Lieber/M. Stroller duo, still venerated by Elvis Presley fans. I don't know who, in America, first recorded that song (Anyone knows???) . But I have a couple of English takes ("covers" as we used to say) of it, late 60's and early 70's vintage.

(*) song title joining lyrics: "... a black leather jacket with an EAGLE on the back". Fabulous, in a threatening sort of way.

Also like "Jet Black Machine" (1960) by Vince Taylor and "Gone Ridin' (early 90's?) by Chris Isaak :???:

I'm a fan of Bob Seger's Roll me Away

Words and music by bob seger

Took a look down a westbound road,
Right away I made my choice
Headed out to my big two-wheeler,
I was tired of my own voice
Took a bead on the northern plains
And just rolled that power on

Twelve hours out of mackinaw city
Stopped in a bar to have a brew
Met a girl and we had a few drinks
And I told her what I’d decided to do
She looked out the window a long long moment
Then she looked into my eyes
She didn’t have to say a thing,
I knew what she was thinkin’

Roll, roll me away,
Won’t you roll me away tonight
I too am lost, I feel double-crossed
And I’m sick of what’s wrong and what’s right
We never even said a word,
We just walked out and got on that bike
And we rolled
And we rolled clean out of sight

We rolled across the high plains
Deep into the mountains
Felt so good to me
Finally feelin’ free

Somewhere along a high road
The air began to turn cold
She said she missed her home
I headed on alone

Stood alone on a mountain top,
Starin’ out at the great divide
I could go east, I could go west,
It was all up to me to decide
Just then I saw a young hawk flyin’
And my soul began to rise
And pretty soon
My heart was singin’

Roll, roll me away,
I’m gonna roll me away tonight
Gotta keep rollin, gotta keep ridin’,
Keep searchin’ till I find what’s right
And as the sunset faded
I spoke to the faintest first starlight
And I said next time
Next time
We’ll get it right

Hey, I used to like that song, too. Lyrics overwhelming the music, BTW. Have to retrieve the vinyl album from the overwhelming pile, that's all. Thanks

Dreaming... Blondie

I don't know why, the songs only about two minutes long and when its over I'm doing 90 in a 35.

Warren Zevon... I'll sleep when I'm dead

I got a 44 magnum up on the shelf.. I'll sleep when I'm dead
I don't intend to use it on myself... I'll sleep when I'm dead

As you can see that song goes nowhere good.. :-D :-D

Good thread wilber-t!!

My fav moto song is called "The 2300 cc Growl" by Triumph. Sounds like a dang jet about to take off. Love the way that engine sounds like super-tight bass drums when I open her up! Kind of reminds me of some speed metal...
