I'm brand new to this forum. Looks like a super site! I do need some advice though. Just got the first 600 miles on mly new Rocket, and like I've heard and read, the stock shocks aren't too hot. Being a big guy (300+ lbs.) , plus an occasional passenger, what might be my best choice for new shocks? I see that the 440's seem to be real popular, and that they can be had in a longer length and heavy duty. Also, the Ikon shocks seem to get a decent rating as well. Will be putting on different pipes in the future, and did not want to have any problems with the mounting on that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanksh :???:

Get the 412's w/ HD springs, they are half the cost. While you're at it, get the chrome covers for 45.00, you'll be sittin' pretty..............

Just my two cents... I would stay with the 12.5 inchers as that is what the bike and the rear swing arm geometry is designed for (not that 1/2 inch is going to make a huge difference). The ride height, with you, a passenger, and some luggage will be determined by the heavy duty spring and the preload.

You might want to give the stockers a chance with your size, the major complaint with them is that they are SO stiff that there is almost no rear suspension travel and the bike rides like a hardtail. Maybe its like that no matter what???

Anyway... welcome to the forum!!!!

Tomo

Adjust the stock shock to the 5 setting and see if that doesn't help the ride. I did my first 500 miles on the #2 setting as the dealer recommended. He bumped it to 4 at the 500 mile service and I adjusted to 5.

I opted for the progressive HD 13 inch and remain very fond of the quality of the ride and appreciative of the extra leg room. I have the shocks set at a very low setting. I might go for the normal 13 shock if I had it to do over. Not certain the bike really cares that it is hauling my 320 lbs arse or a more normal sized rider.
