but I have not been able to find any information on this. I have heard about the R3's having a coolant leak around the water pump. Has anyone heard or had this happen to them? :???:

That's a new one, at least here.

Do you have a leak? A little bit of seepege may be normal, this would look more like a wet film around the water pump's drain hole. Many cars do this... its normal.

If you have a trail of coolant or drips... that's not normal. I would have that checked out.

We have had some people who had the coolant overflow tank overflow itself. This was mostly caused by the tank being too full in the first place, and as the bike warmed up the coolant expanded and it overflowed.

My coolant tank was overflowing. I'd come back to the bike and there'd be a puddle under the bike from the overflow hose. It turned out to have been caused by vapor lock caused by a bad radiator cap.

At around 10000 miles I also had a coolant leak around the water pump. This was due however to the constant expansion and contraction of the coolant hose. In my case all that was required was a tightening of the hose clamps as they had loosened over time. I have 20000 miles and have not had any further problems!

I have had leaks and I tightened up some bolts and fixed the problem. If you keep your bike clean and park in the same clean spot, you can find out if the bike has leaks. Any bike will leak if you leave it untouched and dirty. Your dealer will check things out for you if they have a good service department and it will keep you from over tightening something that should not be over torqued.

First good cold spell, my '05 developed leaks at the hose ends...hose clamps just needed a little attention.
The cold causes the hoses to shrink, there by causing the clamps to lose tension.

Mine leaks from the bolts in the coolant pump cover when it sits for some time and a little oil from behind the oil tank when its very hot but both are very small amounts - will ask dealer to check pump cover seal and torque bolts next time
