Lane Splitting... It is currently legal here in Australia, but the powers that be want to ban this practice, saying that "Current laws have resulted in a cult belief that splitting lanes... an inherently dangerous practice... is recognised as acceptable behaviour for motor bike riders"

Basically it is about sameness... These bureaucrats stating that the proposed laws to ban Lane Splitting will "reflect the community needs and expectations"... feel that we motorcyclists should be brought to heel and brought down to the lowest common denominator. i.e... If cars and trucks can't lane split, why should we!?

In Australia cops can already book us for dangerous riding and other offences if we are not lane splitting in a responsible way... So why not leave it at that?? Probably because some politition or bureaucratic wimp was stuck in traffic one day and was passed by a biker casually getting ahead in traffic.

I don't know about you guys... But this really sucks. I like the opportunity to get ahead of the pack and into the relative safety of the open road instead of being jammed into a sea of tin cans. These laws will lead to more road rage as car drivers will feel the right to police these matters themselves as they try to stop riders from lane splitting in the name rightousness and justice!

Our lawmakers are hell bent on banning bike riding or making it as hard as possible for commutors on bikes. One polly even stated that if bike riding was invented today it would be a banned form of transport!

Sign this partition (ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE AN AUSTRALIAN RIDER) and have a say!!

Lane Splitting Laws Suck!

Interesting that 20 or so riders from the R3 owners Forum have signed this petition, yet not a single rider apart from myself cares enough to get behind protecting our rights as riders on this Forum!!??

C'mon guys... These law changes are the tip of the ice-berg when it comes to beaurocrats impinging on our enjoyment and freedom as riders!!

Don't you have to be an Aussie citizen? I'll gladly sign up but do you think a lunkhead from Missouri is going to have much impact on them? Do you think that they will believe that lane splitting in Oz is a big concern of mine even though I've never been there?

I do like to support my fellow bikers :-D , I'm just worried about the credibility of your petition if you have a bunch of foreigners on it.

Tell me what you would like... I'll help out if you feel its wise!!

It's a Merican site set-up Tommo... the aim is just to get signatures on a single petition. Anyway thanks for signing but I guess I was aiming at the dozen or so Aussie captains here!
