Hey Rick, when I was Stateside last June, David Harvey kindly purchased a Harley-Davidson brand Jet helmet with flip down visor plus an additional tinted visor for me. This helmet is not available in Australia but I became aware of it when one of our rental clients from Florida flew in to collect a bike and brought his own helmet along.
Apart from the HD branding, she's a beauty. No fogging, no more bugs, no icicles hanging orf me eyebrows during a winter frost, no nothing except great comfort and the ability to flip the shield up if I want some wind in the face. I'd been using the ubiquitous open face lid for years, bravely struggling through the elemets to uphold the virtues of coolness and style... but hey, to hell with all that stuff, I'm gettin' too old to be worried anymore 'bout all that... just give me the comfort thankyou!!!
I used the helmet to good effect the other day when I had to return a R1200GS back from Melbourne after a one-way rental drop-off. The last day on the road, from Kempsey NSW to Noosa (about 700kms) saw a filthy storm about every 20 minutes. Let me tell ya, THATS when you need a decent helmet. Me socks were wringin' wet, I was ridin' in soggy undies all day and it was generally not one of those rides to remember, but.... ma head stayed warm and dry and best of all, I never had a fogged up visor. You can't be optimistic if you've got a misty optic! :-D
