Decat too noisy for UK?

I went to look at a 2006 Triumph Rocket Classic today.
The bike was immaculate for the year, with only 4500 miles on the clock.
The bike was fitted with a Decat box with standard exhausts.
The bike sounded glorious but it did seem a little too loud.
I am a little concerned that I will get my collar felt by the Police with the noise it makes.
Anyone running a Rocket in the UK with the decat done?
If so how many times have you been pulled!
Worse case, I could refit the standard Cat but I must admit the bike did sound nice

Andy

I have the TORs on a roadster, so no cats there.
Not been stopped by the plod usually its how your riding they're looking at, unless your get a bored traffic cop.
At the moment in devon & cornwall the standing joke is there are more police cars than police officers.

I agree with triplestrength, its more often the place and way you are riding that make the plod react.

Standard silencers (which are straight through anyway) with cat removed is quite acceptable, a good compromise between noise and efficiency, imo.

I have standard Roadster silencers on my Classic (internal cats) and the difference in ear comfort factor after several hundred miles is noticeable. Personally I have had enough of noisy exhausts especially after 14 years of riding Harley's.

Have to agree with you, I had the TORS and the decat it was really noisy, fine for short runs but any distance it drove you insane, I live in the country and it drives horses nuts too!
I went to Croatia on mine and then Andorra...I went for the std setup for that..it made sense really 400+ miles per day every day for 2 weeks!
I finally went with TORS and the Cat, very nice compromise with a suitable map
There are days when I miss the full BLAST though!
I never got stopped by the police..the only thing that could lead to a fail on your MOT is the "NOT FOR ROAD USE" label at the MOT station, just put a sticker over it before you have your test

Thanks for the replys
Still dithering over buying the Rocket or a Thunderbird.
My heart says Rocket, and my 'sensible' brain says Thunderbird
One problem if I get the Thunderbird, I would be worried I will want a Rocket after a week!

Quick question, if I got the Rocket and decided the bike was too loud for me.
How easy is it to put it back to standard?
The Rocket I looked at will come compete with the standard Cat, is it just a matter of changing it back?
Will it need a Remap??

Andy

It will need a remap easiest way is to buy a Power Commander and fit that using its No Cat TORS map this intercepts the Chip and the bike uses the Power Commander, if you remove the cat and TORS and refit std just unplug the Commander and the bike reverts back to STD.

If you havn't ridden them yet, its a must. Before I bought the Classic I tried a 2008 Std and couldn't get on with at all - mainly because I'm a short-arse. Tried a Classic and it was perfect.

Didn't consider a T'bird, it wasn't the kind of bike for my usage - still a nice looking bike though.

If you want a stronger sound without being at all upsetting to anyone + release a few horses at the same time fit cat bypass only, keeping the cat & fitting Tors will not yield as much power, if you want louder still you can fit the Tors later. Dealer can flash in a tune for either, a friendly one may not even charge you.
Power commander is hardly worth the extra expense unless you plan on further performance mods.

Sorry, I understand where you're coming from but I have to disagree, a second hand power commander allows you remap whenever YOU like and for nothing, when you tire of it put it on E-Bay and get your money back.
It's a guaranteed A1 no brainer really.
I've done it twice now...and am proof positive that no brain is required!
