Temp down to below 0° C, that's about 32° F, here . Rode for about 60 miles and had to call it a day. Wintah's the winnah. And it has taken me 38 years of riding to resign myself to that...

It is cold out here in the eastern US too. I took out my TBS for the first time in a month just to stretch it out some for about 45 minutes. The weather was about 38 degrees which is nice because we still have a bit of ice when below 32 here in Maryland.

Check out my other bike...a 2004 Thunderbird Sport...

Sorry to hear about your cold weather blues. I took a 1000 mile trip over the weekend including a stretch in the late afternoon down highway 1 through Big Sur. Its always a spectacular ride. I love to do the Sur ride in the low afternoon sun becuase it enhances the relief of the coastline, plus I pull into a nice motel just as it gets dark, drink several margarita's and a have nice mexican meal.

Life is too good....I don't deserve such bliss but I will take it anyway. :-D :-D

Jamie,

Weather's about the same here in PA! Cold and rotten! I can handle the cold but the chemical ***** they put on the roads here in the winter is really, really nasty to cars, let alone bikes! Sigh! Despite that we will still (weather permitting) do our now annual Dec. 31/Jan.1 ride. Can't think of a better way to end and start a year! LOL!

BTW, the engine/tranny will be coming out of the '69 BSA Rocket 3 this afternoon. Found a big pile of odd metal bits at the bottom of the crankcase. Good thing I was planning a complete rebuild in the first place! AND I found a 830cc big bore kit for the bike!! I am soooooo happy! Also haven't found any evidence that the bike was anything but metallic blue yet. Either stripped and repainted by someone VERY anal or it came from the factory that way and really might be one of your Geneva police bikes!

Ugarte,

Ok, so you have good riding weather all year long BUT.......do the words "earthquake, mudslide and tsunami" mean anything to you?? LOL! Now I feel better!

Cogito ergo equito

Well, earthquakes large enough to cause significant damage happen every few years....same for mudslides...and the last tsunami was in 1964 after the big earthquake in Anchorage Alaska.

TBAbob, no news from the local police "public relations" (!) office, despite my letter to them and offer to foot the bill for photocopy or other handling costs. The BSA store owner who had been commissioned by the police to rebuild their metallic blue Rocket 3 engines has apparently passed away (as further research of mine both here in Switz. where he ran the store and in France where he had come from regrettably suggests...). Wish I could pursue further. When I retire, maybe

PS Since do not you evidently intend to restore it to absolute coranic authenticity, may I suggest Boyer electronic ignition and, possibly, a Quaife 5-speed tranny? It would still look original.

Jamie,

Thanks for the effort! I have been learning a lot about the BSA and it's cousin, the Triumph Trident. I am already considering the 5-speed conversion. Appearantly, it only requires a bit of machining on the gearcase and it slips right in. The big bore is a strong possibility and the Branson iginition is a given! I go back far enough with bikes that I DON'T recall having to kick the bike 20-30 times to start it as a pleasant memory of the "good old times"! LOL!

Having restored a few olde Brit sports cars, I respect the necessity of keeping the bike true to it's originality. But that's on the outside! Whatwever I can do to the inside to make it run faster and better will be done. I'm not going to do all this work to look at it sitting in my shop. I want other people to look at it with me sitting on top while I'm passing them!!

Cogito ergo equito

Hey Bob....I think I remember you saying you have a Jaguar E-type, is that true? If so when it gets warmer would you mind a gawker from Maryland with a camera to come visit?
