Has anyone installed the heated grips on their R3? Is there a way of installing them w/o that rediculous-looking switch assembly on the handlebar?

I really would enjoy that feature on the Rocket, but that goiter of a switchpod is a dealbreaker!

I agree with pbbeck.

Not to mention that the Triumph heated grips are too pricey.

Anyone install aftermarket grips?

Looks like JC Whitney has some for standard 1" or 1 1/8" handle bars.

Thanks for the tip. Not being mechanically inclined, I can't tell by looking at the photo whether you can use the included grips with the bar-end weights on the Rocket. What do you think?

I find the Triumph heated grips likely the best accessory I purchased.

they work great and they've solved the biggest winter riding problem I USED to have. . .cold hands no matter what kind of gloves I wore.

Now I can ride with gloves that allow me some "feel" of the grips, etc., and yet my hands are toasty in all temps.

Think they cost $240 US installed. . .a bargain from my perspective.

ride on

I love the heated grips too... Spoilt after having them on my BM... And honestly. after about five minutes you don't see the switch unit! I guess you could change it for something less obvious but it is also good for when and if you fit driving lights etc..

How do the heated grips work as far as keeping the outside of your hands warm (obviously they'll keep your palms warm). This was a flaw in years gone by with the early snowmobile heated grips. How cold do you ride?

I use Gerbing heated gloves and believe them to be the best mc accessory that I have ever purchased... at 1/2 the price of the heated grips.

Forum;

I know the subject is about Heated Grips, and I don't have Heated Grips, but I do have a pair of Joe Rocket Nitrogen Gloves... JRV 556-2005 that were just released.

A couple of weeks back, I had to take the R-III in for the final drive exchange and new rear tire. Weather all week was good (Mid 40's) - till Saturday, when it dipped to 24 degrees. Bundled up with a polypropolene shirt - my Rocket Shirt - LeatherJacket, Blue Jeans w/ Chaps and over all of that I covered myself with Triumphs Rain Suit - Neck to Ankle. Someone (estimated based on speed) that it was 15 degrees windchill... on the bike. For Gloves.... I wore a pair of polly propolene gloves and a pair of nameless motorcycle gloves that I bought for cold weather. My hands got cold, that drove me to stop about every 40 miles to get warm again, etc. The rest of me was warm, but my hands got cold.

While at the dealers - and 2 hours to kill, I saw the Joe Rocket gloves and the Parts guy said the pair I was looking at were just released to them. So, I bought a pair... $65.00.... When the bike was finished I rode from Lexington, KY, to home (95 miles) with these gloves in outdoor temp of 30 degrees... (it warmed up a bit) and I am Impressed... My hands were warm - toasty... and they never got cold. I even told a buddy who rides his bike with a Joe Rocket Jacket.. that if the Jacket is anything like the gloves, I will buy one today.

Just my feedback

I installed heated grips this past weekend. Not to bad to install but the switch is very ugly. I did some checking around and most heated grips come with a toggle switch. I did find a great little switch from Adventure Motostuff (amotostuff.com). It is a small three position switch (Hi Off Low) for $5 dollars and I mounted it on the plastic cover opposite side the power port that would be the right side behind the motor.

I will send pictures as soon as the weather breaks here in the north east. It is so bitter cold and no change in sight for at least a week. I will look up the switch on this web site and post it in a minute.

the gloves I use keep the outside of my hands warm, and the heat from the grips, by default, also "circulate" within my gloves.

When it's clear and no possibility of ice on the road, I ride in the 20s; otherwise, when confirmed above freezing.

Usual winter distance is to work, which is about 20 miles one way. Weekend jaunts are usually a bit longer, especially when I can travel in late morning, early afternoon when temps are maxed.

ride on
