i'm typing w/one finger cuz i managed to lose my r3 last wed aftnoon in a curve. curve tightened & i tried to increase lean & touched frnt brake. got into good lean & immeadiately heard a very loud 'bang'. from there on my body engaged in x rated activity with the asphalt. NOT recommended.

i'll soon find out how capable my dealer is. he has a single mech who can work on r3. i've spoken w/mech and he's a nice guy but has told me he knows very little about the bike.

ins adj told me he won't get an estimate of damage from dealer for at least another week. said it's possible bike may be totaled but he (ins adj) has no guidelines for r3.

my son says front tire is blown, fork is twisted, front fender is jammed into tire, fly screen is shattered, head lights & directionals shattered, fuel gage busted, handlebar shot, clutch lever/grip controls shot, radiator shot, bear claw damaged, left side foot controls/pegs gone, left side tor damaged. visible damage appears to be mostly left side & forward of rear wheel.

seat & sissybar not damaged. i had removed saddle bags 3 wks earlier.

doesn't sound totaled to me but i guess that depends on any damage to frame/dtrain/engine???

i can't respond too well but would greatly appreciate comments on any aspect of this experience,

Sorry to read about your misfortune. I hope that you are recovering o/k.

From what I've seen from the bone pickers selling salvaged bikes on ebay, it doesn't take a whole lot of damage for the insurance adjusters to consider a wrecked RIII as totaled.

Stick to your guns though, and be sure that the shop and insurance company treats you right.

Wishing you and your ride a speedy recovery !

Mtnwinds, sorry to hear of your little spill. Main thing is you're patched up and OK, and the bike... well, sounds like it can be fixed! How about some pics.

This might sound a little morbid but since a few have hit the deck here and there, maybe we should create a special album for Rockets that have died and gone to heaven!

MAT MLADIN Motorcycles had rocket in shop september dropped on left hand side at low speed less than 60klms(30mph) gear change lever broke causing motor out repair 10000 aus $ plus $1200 in mall cosmetic repairs!!!!!!!! NRMA (IAG)one of Australias largest insurers have just increased insurance quote on rocket to me over 50 with best record 60% no claim to $4000 per annum!!!!!! because they apparently have had 3 claims for this where someone has parked rocket on slight incline and they have fallen over by themselves because of nearly upright side stand angle !!!!As much as i dislike engine bars i am getting some made that will not fold on low speed drop, as i am one of the few poor souls who has got their jeans leg caught in the side stand. Also i cant wait to get my Rocket back from local chopper shop who are ftting nitrous bottles (10oz) 1 left 1 right on frame and three fabulous guages and three intake pods!!!!!!they claim with mods already done and maddogs with free flow bypass i will have approx 165hp at rear ( a rocket has already been done by this mob and dynoed at 170bhp at rear but with huge 2 pipe exhausts that i will post a picture of as well when i get mine back. My mods ere approx 3500 aus dollars so big bang for bucks!!!!!!! :-D :hammer:

Sorry to hear about your near tarmac experience hope you heal quickly, My experience with insurance company was the bike shop said £2900 to repair my bike the insurance said the bike was worth £3100 so the the bike was a write off.so i bought the bike back for £800 they gave me a cheque for £2300 and the bits will cost me approx £700 including a new paint job, So don,t give up on your RIII just yet.

If they do total it... I guess you would get a new bike??? That wouldn't be so bad.....
