Received an anonymous message today. Someone telling me that based on my uncommon family name Esperet (shown on my private e:mail address) , my roots were in Iowa, NOT in Switzerland. Ouch! (although the two might actually be sequential, as opposed to contradictory, as I hastily rationalized). A link to the US official census history site was provided. It confirms that the messenger is right. Much to my surprise, there were several Esperet's in Iowa in the early or mid 1850. That would make them very early settlers, I suppose, as I am no Apache. None left today.
And no Esperet alive in Switz., apart from truly yours and his son. And only six in France, only four related to me. One of the other two is Chateau d' Esperet , BTW, an increasingly appreciated vineyard in SW France (Languedoc, I'd gladly resign myself to such roots...).
Anyone from Iowa with an interest in genealogy could shed some light on this?
(Realize this is egoistically off topic and I apologize for that, although I sense (Stephen King-ly-speaking) that the message could somehow be related to my posts here) :???:
