Besides restricting power while in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd gears do the butterfly valves also assist in the mechanical control or regulation of airflow based on temperature, humidity, altitude...conditions? In other words will removing the secondary butterfly valves effect the computer's ability to adjust to different riding conditions?

Does this effect the existing tune-I can't imagine that it does?

For those who have already made this modification, other than more aggressive throttle response has anyone experienced any negative effects?

It looks like it should be easy to replace the valves if there are problems. Is this the case?

Has anybody succeeded in eliminating the power restriction by changing the resistance of the first 3 gear sensors?

Thank you for your assistance in answering these questions.

Steve

Either, I have stumped the experts with these questions or the questions are so silly nobody wants to answer them?

I figured it would be easier to let the ECM think the plates are still there, than to change any input signals. When the plates are removed, the servo motor and position sensor (encoder) for the secondaries are still operational. I have no idea of what other operational parameters would change if you told the ECM that it was not in 1st or 2nd gears (mixture, timing advance, etc.). I observed that the secondaries opened on cold start indicating they do not have any "choke" effect. The only trick I found is to adjust to very slow speed manuvering and cornering throttle operation. All in all it's an easy mod that gives you quicker throttle response in 1st - 3rd gears. It gave my bike what I felt was missing when I first bought it, even after cat box removal, TORs, and 20056 tune.

Hi Steve!!!

I'm no expert but I just now saw your post :-D

To answer the first question... I don't believe that heat, humidity, or anything else have an effect on the secondary throttle plates other than the TPS and the gear you are in. I've had mine off for quite awhile and have had no ill effects except that my arms are now 2 inches longer.

There was some talk about fooling the ecm with different outputs from the gear position switch, I'm sure it would probably work, but most people just pull the secondary throttle plates (but leave the shaft and actuator in so it doesn't throw a check engine light).

If you team this mod up with some sort of free flow exhaust, a free flow air filter, and a PC III with the accellerator pump engauged.... you can really get some gone. Only downside is gas mileage can drop some.

And yes.. it would be easy to put it back to stock. Just be sure to note what side was out, and what hole they came out of so they go back in in same way... and use some loctite on the screws since they are no longer staked.

I hope this helps.

Tomo
