I am finishing up the 3 filter (K&N p/n RU-2780) install and I'd like to get some ideas from others on what they did with the air temp sensor and the MAP sensor. Both are attached to the stock air duct and I'd like to remove it.. I've looked through earlier threads and I don't see this mentioned.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi drtim: I put my temp sensor in the plastic around the steering neck to get it in the same air flow temp as when in the air tube. The barometric presure sensor can stay in the old air box as long as its not sealed air tight. Jack

The map sensor can remain anywhere under tank. Just dont shorten or cut the rubber hoses as they are all equal length and have to be to read manifold pressure properly >>jack

Jack-
Thanks for the info on the sensors, especially the map sensor hose length, I know I would have cut them just to clean things up after install. I did the secondary throttle plates, installed the filters, and modified the stock mufflers for a tad more sound. Can't wait to finish the sensors and get it out on the road. Thanks again.

DrTim,
Let us know how that works out. I am having my R3 picked up on Monday by K & N's Powersports Product Engineers to run some tests on my stock motor on their dyno. They want to run some baseline tests and then modify the filter(s); one vs. three over the stock one. Then after I get my Jardine pipes and Power Commander, they want to rerun all of the tests. Pretty cool... Huh?

Mike-
With all the help and info for this sight, the 3 filters and secondary plates removal was very easy, cheap, and clean. The filters were the only expense, stock parts simply removed, no cutting, gouging, or mangling (of the bike), the finished product looks bitchin, and I could feel a definite performance improvement. All-in-all, well worth the time and money.
I am very happy with the outcome, unfortunately my clutch is not, it now slips. Time fot the Barnett heavy duty set-up.

Please keep us posted on the K&N test and outcome. Sounds like your gonna have one hellava ride when it's all done.

drtim,

I am about to add the triple K&Ns to my R3. Can you fit the bearclaw over the new filter set-up?? I have seen several other posts, some say it fits without mods, others say it must be modified. What's the truth?

I did the 3-filter set-up, no, the cover won't fit over them. I used a shear to cut the "claw" part away, then trimmed it with molding. Looks bitchin'. But it is loud, and I can hear the intakes now, all of the time.

I just checked my bike and the cover will not fit over the 3 filters. Thay look so ***** good I don't want to cover them up, plus the sound is awesome. I've seen Aussiekeepers' mod to the cover and it looks very clean, he removed just the claw (humps) over the filters, I will probably do the same and powder coat black to match the paint. I am also trying to find something chrome to put into or onto the tops of the filters to dress it up a bit. I have an email into K&N to see if they have anything. I will first try to find something "off the shelf" before I get to fabbing it myself. :hammer:
