Got chased by French cops last Sunday on a motorway in Bourgogne. One patrol car with flashing lights followed by two bikes, coming out of nowhere. Spectacular. Very nervously signaling me to exit the highway. Which I did. Down the exit ramp, two other patrol cars were waiting. A total of 6 or 7 cops just for me (at the time). They said I had been radar-trapped @ 145 k's in a 110 k's zone (vs. the regular 130 k's "autoroute" limit), much earlier on that motorway. They explained that the chasing was due to my Swiss plate (I suppose they just mail traffic tickets to their compatriots?). Fine?: 90 Euro's (that's about 110 USD!!!) to be paid in cash on the spot. Which I did. But then I had to endure a courteous albeit lengthy and bitter-sounding lecture about French road regulations and the fact that Germans and Swiss don't take them seriously. The whole episode lasted 30'. I got a hand-written receipt. Message is: Be extra careful if you are to ride or drive in France nowadays.
