Need to get my tank re-sprayed, following the deep scratches that someone inflicted upon it (earlier post). While I am at it, this month or next, I figure I may just as well have the chrome cover on the l/h side of the tank painted as well, as several of you have done. The question is: what sort of work would that entail, i.e to prep the thing for primer and eventual paint and clear coats? Hints and tips (even dont's!) appreciated. Thanks much Bros

Jamie, use a solvent to remove the oils and waxes, then, scuff it up real well with Scotchguard. use a self etching primer, 600 sandpaper, base coat, color coat, clear.
Also if anyone has the formula for the factory red, including the basecoat color, let me know. I would like to purchase it in spray cans. I have a little project in the works.........

Thanks Ron. Will provide the canned paint # asap, if there's one (there is a touch-up tube already available from Triumph). I love that cardinal red hue BTW. It's also the ONLY thing that wiffie does not dislike about the bike...

But an alternative (questionable outcome of my bordeaux-aided thinkin' on a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon) is to re-paint the whole bike, including the chrome-plated oddity in question, BRG or metallic Jaguar Racing Green.

Just another thing on my "to do" Oct. or Nov. list

I might be able to come up with a paint code for something like Diztler. We have a body shop at our dealership. The problem is that our painter has sniffed a little too much of his own work and he's not quite right anymore... but he is happy.

Let me check Monday....
