I have the Harley oil temp dipstick and my r3 seems to run around 190-200 degrees, i am in Florida so its been in the 90's.
Was wondering where the normal range is for this bike..200 seems a little high but maybe not..my brothers hd runs around 165-180 degrees.
Wondering if the guage is not accurate, since the fan is supposed to kick on i think around 185 and thats not really happening that often.

The cooling fan works on a sensor that senses coolant temp... not oil temp. I just looked through the service manual and it doesn't give a spec for what coolant temp the radiator fan kicks on ( at least not that I could find in the cooling section of the manual). Usually the fan will kick on at 220 F or maybe even higher. If you have an OBD II scanner you could hook it up and observe the coolant temp when the fan kicks on.

We have had some reports that if you get your Rocket really hot the ECM will shut the engine off to keep it from seriously overheating.

I think I read in the owners manual that the fan went on @ 210 and shut off @ 180.
