I rode my bike to work today. As I was perparing to leave around Five-ish dark clouds rolled in. I got blasted on the way home. I had a lightning bolt (Not BSA) hit a phone pole about 100 feet from me. Scared the **** out of me. Bike is filthy. I am still wet.

Are ya happy now???

Tomo

Hey Tom, had one of those nice little rides a few years ago. Same thing, I had rode to work, went to leave, and noticed it looked like rain. No biggie, only 12 miles to home. I get a few miles down the road and the sky just gets evil looking and the winds go up to gale force. Funny looking cloud passes ahead. Hey!!!!! It's rotating :-o . Fortunately, I was near a relatives house and ducked in there. I didn't mind the rain after that.

So your'e all wet, what else is new? :-D

I had a similar event last february. Got stuck in a mean hailstorm and lightning stuck a telephone pole about 100 feet in front of me. The metal parts lit up like a Christmas tree.

I'm ascared of lightning on a bike....its just too unpredictable and too unforgiving.

Can you actually get hit by lightning on a bike - presumably even if you were the rubber tyres would insulate you. (Just don't stop and put your foot down!)

Certainly feels wrong riding around on a bloody big lump of metal when there is lightening all around you.

You most certainly can be struck on a bike. And the rubber tires won't mean a thing. The lightning travels miles through air. If it hits you, your dead.

What does work is being inside a metal cage (car body) that will conduct the current around and not through you. It's called the faraday cage effect for those who want to know.

I believe typos are within AUP and posting a correction is not required (but don't take my word on that--Tomo's a pretty tough cookie  )

I'm from a grammatically anal family myself (three English teachers on mother's side!) so I understand!
