Well Captains, after a weekend of riding in rough gravel roads, my stock license plate/turn signal bracket broke off. Had to cut the wires off and pocket the thing. But you guys don't need to worry because my rear end was heavily modified and the bracket did not have as much support as it came stock.

Anyways, I was going to get rid of that unsightly bracket anyways.
Now I'm looking for a side mount plate holder. I'm green at buying those things so any pointers from you all would be helpful. I know there's a few Captains out there with side mounts. What specs should I look for that will fit the Rocket with stock shocks?

I use a kuryakyn vertical mount with stop light. I think it is made for a VTX. I mounted it on the left rear shock. Have to jack up bike. You can hide the wires and run the connection under the seat and tie into the wires under the right side cover. Hope this helps! I use small billet turn signals that fit in under the chrome fender bracket. Drill holes in the red reflectors and mount these turn signals and you have a nice clear view of the bright stop light from the vertical plate. Down the road I will cut the back fender up to the chrome and not use the back light that came stock with my ride. This is after I get things worked out with Mr. Triumph and get my new ride to replace the sickocycle disease I ride now.

Thanks Rocken,

I got the pics you sent. I'll post the side mount one here for you.

After looking at a few plates, I don't see anything with will fit the Rocket without some mods. Did you have to make any changes to that side mount or fab a bracket as other Captains have? What's the model number for that?

I have selected my replacements.
For a sidemount plate holder I went with Kuryakyn #9148 here...

This is the same unit that RockenR3 used and he said no mods needed to be done to fit. Just use the supplied longer bolt to replace with the lower shock mounting bolt. I like this unit because it's reasonably priced $119 ($107 at www.customdynamics.com) - less than half the cost of what some companies want for their billet stuff with brake and illumination lights. Don't confuse this with the #9154 model or similar that is intended for swingarm/frame mounting.

I thought I'd list all the other sidemounts I found for anyone interested.

The cheapest solution I found was a universal mount at www.motorcyclemods.com for only $38. Bare bones bracket, but if that's all you want then it's a great deal...

...add a cateye LED and bracket for $42.99...

... cheap solution but would likely need a custom made bracket to fit on the Rocket.

www.customdynamics.com had some other universal sidemounts like the #US-001...

... and CD107 with illumination light...

... other Captains have used this but it needs a custom bracket to fit right on the Rocket, though the fab is easy to do yourself if you're handy.

www.eurocomponentsusa.com has a nice sidemount here but it's pricey...

... looks like it could be used as a shockmount without mods, just need a longer mounting bolt. Would've been my choice if I had the cash to spare.

Drag Specialties has some decent sidemounts here that'd work too, but they're on the pricey side as well.

Now as for replacement turn signals, I opted to go with Kury Louver LED units (pair of 1 inch amber units) and fab my own under fender bracket since my Mistress has a unique and luscious rear end...

I think I'll be happy with my choices.
I'll let you know how the installs go.

Well, I put in the new stuff, but I wasn't thinking all too clear when RockenR3 said no mods to the sidemount would be needed. I failed to figure that he did not have an exhaust pipe on the left side, so of course it fit! For us riders with the majestic triple pipes, we gotta do a tad more so the plate holder clears that exhaust.

All you need is find or make a bracket from stainless or aluminum around 5.5 inches long by 1.5 inches wide by one-quarter inch thick. Then drill holes at each end big enough to slip the mounting bolts through - 5/8" or 3/4" holes should do.

Here's some pics of the finish...

Another pic of the rear showing the LED Louvers as turn signal lights. I tucked them discretely under the fender. Looks slick, but the 1 inchers are a tad small so I'll order up another pair and double them up.
