Since I’m in the market for a new Rocket I’ve been very interested in any changes for 06. Through some phone calls and internet research I found out that today was going to be the Triumph Annual Dealer show here in Phoenix about 20 minutes from my home so I decided to go over to the Point Hilton and see if I could get a peek. I told one of my local dealers about my plan yesterday and they assured me that there would be absolutely no way for me to gain access due to high security measures by Triumph but I figured “What the hey”.

I found the dealer tent and walked in as though I owned the place. All of the 06’s were on display but I headed right to my only real interest, the Rocket III Classic and boy was I not disappointed.

They had 5 models on display, 3 with the blackened engine, 2 with two tone paint schemes, one with what I assume to be a new solid paint coloring “Gold”.

The two tones where Black with a Cherry Red center to the fenders and tank with the Black and Cherry separated by a gold pin-strip, and a Black Cherry with a White center on fenders and tank also with gold pin-strip. Both were gorgeous!

They all had the new one piece driver-passenger seat that looked and felt more plush than the current seat although I couldn’t sit on it to see how it felt to the fanny. Nice subtle stitching, looked good. One model carried the leather forward as a center strip over the gas tank.

The classic models had the foot boards which I couldn’t try out but looked good.

The black engine….Man what an improvement, more so than I had imagined. The blackened engine makes it look less like a huge block of metal and more of a monster in the shadows. One exceptionally nice benefit of the blackened engine was the contrast it provided for the Chrome! The Chrome REALLY stands out now!

I got to view them for about 15 minutes. I saw the dealer I had talked to the day before and his little helper about 10 minutes into my visit; he waved then acted like I was an Iraqi suicide bomber. Saw him with a Triumph rep and 5 minutes later the same Triumph rep asked for my badge and when I told him I was not a dealer, politely escorted me out. I’m pretty sure the dealer narced me out and he has definitely lost my business and everyone else I can inform if I confirm that to be the case when I call him next week.

Anyway, the bikes are beautiful. The changes definitely raise it one more rung up the “aesthetics” ladder. I will certainly be waiting for the 06 now for my purchase. Possible bad news is that I spoke to a dealer outside and she said they would not arrive until sometime in 06. I guess we’ll all know better next week when the dealers are back in their shops and ready for questions but I don’t see how Triumph can make the dealers and customers wait until 06 since dealer 05 stock is very short with no more in the pipeline.

Sorry I didn’t get a chance to look at the other models. Hope this is somewhat informative for you all.

Good job..you bandito'd the dealer show and got the goods on the 06's. Looking forward to seeing them on the showroom floor early next year.

I still think they should offer a John Deere model.. :-D :-D

Hey Special agent Bikernoobs 007, Great work, great work!!! Just goes to show what a bit of detirmination, careful planning and downright cunning can achieve... you're our man. Thanks!

Your full and detailed description was excellent and has only excited our anticipation for the future. Now that the dealer meeting will have been run and won, pics will probably show up on the net at places like www.mcnews.com.au and www.motorcycle.com

Roll on the future! Davo

That's an interesting picture of the new R3 in the photo album section of this site. It appears as though the exhaust pipes are different than the current R3 pipes.

They have the "cone" endcaps... you can buy those through Triumph now and put them on your bike if you like their looks. They simply replace the slash cut end caps.

Nice pics... who shot those???
