THX for the info! Don't be too hard on them for "politely" showing you the door, as long they weren't unduly rude or abusive. After all, you weren't supposed to be there and keeping everything under wraps is very important to them (though it may be hard for us to understand why this close to public release).

Glad to hear they're offering paint variety other than tribal stripes and flame jobs. I hope it's as classy as the 2-tone treatments they used to do on the earlier triple classics like my Thunderbird. Can't wait to see this new "mainstream" styling of the Rocket--I'm pretty sure it still won't be mistaken for a Vulcan or Intruder

Yeah, take it easy on the dealer, especially if he's done right by you business-wise. It's not that easy to find good dealers.

You were the one who crashed the party, after all, and it is Triumph's legitimate concern when and with whom they wish to have their business affairs discussed. So, just be grateful you had your 15 minutes, as we in this forum are grateful for your report, and don't show your tail toward the dealer. He wasn't the one in the wrong.

I love the blacked out engine. Wonder how hard it would be to do that to an '05...

I have no ill will towards Triumph or their reps for escorting an uninvited guest out of their tent, I completely understand.

The dealer on the other hand had no real business related reason for pointing me out to Triumph, quit the contrary. I may be a bikernoob, but I am a senior business man who owns my own services company and the fact is that the customer comes first. Knowing that I was a serious customer the dealer should have been at worst “neutral” about my presence, maybe given me a wink and gone about his business pretty much ignoring that I was there. I might even suggest that he could have offered to “sponsor” me as an “employee” the day before when I told him of my plans to take a peek, although I would certainly not expect that.

Look, the biker community is a VERY small community of people who share their information and experiences. Dealers can not afford to act in an adversarial manner towards their customers; they risk losing much more than the business of a single individual.

Now I have not listed the name of the dealer because I have not given him the opportunity to deny his actions. I will speak with him tomorrow when he is back from the show and if he confirms my suspicions than I will offer that information to those I come in contact so that they can decide for themselves if he is someone they wish to do business with. I would suspect that many would not.

Man you are being hard on your dealer. For all we know they may have had to sign an NDA before attending.

Cut your dealer some slack on this one. You got a sneak peak at something you clearly weren't supposed to see. You even said you walked in like you owned the place knowing you weren't supposed to be there.

I wouldn't be hard on the dealer, but I salute you for your chutzpah! I don't have the brass to pull off something like that!

Please tell me what the business benefits for the dealer to point me out to Triumph would be, why would he not just behave naturally?

As I say, if you as a customer would be “understanding” of a dealer going out of his way to point out a buying customer who he knew was ONLY there to seek information on a bike he wished to buy to the Triumph reps, then by all means give him your business once I name him. That’s the beauty of the free market; you get to express your support or lack of to those you think deserve it.

And did you completely miss the part where I take responsibility for my own actions by saying I hold no ill-will towards the Triumph reps for escorting me out of a place I was not invited. Is it that difficult for you to understand the difference between the two separate issues?

I think that Triumph is doing itself a disservice by being so clandestine about its new models. There is obvioulsy a considerable level of interest in the 2006 models. Harley-Davidson coordinates the preview of its new models with its dealers with a showing of the new models on its web site. That way, the dealers see the bikes in the metal and the rest of the faithful can see the bikes on the web. A look at the Triumph web site for the UK and the US makes no mention of the new models as of yet. This is a lost marketing opportunity as far as I am concerned.

Hey, listen, I don't agree with Triumph being very secretive either but they are. Maybe your dealer is supposed to act as if they are Triumph employees when invited to this event, I don't know. All I know is you are being very hard on these people.

Also remember it is a motorcycle dealer and not a Fortune 500 company. Most motorcycle dealers and their employees are just regular people, I doubt most understand the true meaning of marketing and good business sense. You can see the zillion complaints on line about every dealer there is.

I think you are missing the point but whatever, I don't really care one way or the other if you give them a break or not, it is just what I would do :-D

You and I can shake hands and agree that we just view the dealers (not Triumph) actions a bit differently.
