You also may not know that there is a place for it right under the seat on the left hand side. there is a black plug in the frame now, i put one of the factory assessory outlets in there, its great. you may need an adapter though cause its for europe specs not the size of the american cigarette lighter size..i got my adapter at a bmw m/c dealer.
Good luck.

Wadejesu,
your comment suggests the socket has a cable with socket to go into harness - is this correct. In UK that part number just gets me a socket and presumably I just cable it direct into battery !! Its £20 her but can get same (in fact better waterproofed) in boat-shop for half price !
Pls advise
Thx NeilH

The Triumph accessory socket comes with the socket and all wiring needed to plug into the harness. Not as cheap as a DIY jobbie, but the easiest to install and cheapest accessory in the Triumph book.

The plug is made by a company called Powerlet and is available through most bike shops. The wiring is hanging behind the blanking plug ready for use.

Might be too late to help you. But my dealer got me the cigarette lighter so I don't have to the adapter stuff. He had to drill out the hole a little bigger to make it fit. But works great for my cell phone.

Thx for the feedaback but now i am more confused !!
I have checked behind the plastic plate in front of the left hand side pannel and there are no terminations or even spare cables hanging down.
Also, to raise this again - the UK part no A9938047 contains no wires but just the socket with its flip down cover. The socket has spade connectors only and definaltey no socket to get into the wiring harness.
It looks a though the US gets a different wiring harness and a different part !!??
Before I query Triumph here, can you pls confirm that your part no A9938047 comes complete with wires and a socket to go into the harness !!?
While I am at it, does your socket switch off with the ignition or is it effectively a direct connection into the battery?
Again, any and all feedback much appreciated.
THx NeilH

NeilH,
Yes in the USA we only get the socket with spring loaded flip cover and lugs on the other end.
You will need to look at your harness VERY closely. You will likely find the female plug under some tape. AND, if yours is like mine, it was on the oppisite side of the wiring bundle!!! What a pain in the arse!!! I ended up taking the right side plastic cover off as well in order to work with the wiring/plug and get it over where it belonged. What should have been a simple 5 minute plugin job took much longer and caused much grief. I suspect someone at the factory is having a jolly good laugh at our expense.
The power to the socket is not "keyed". It is active all the time. I find this feature handy for the use of a trickle charger over the winter months.
Hope this info is helpful. Larry

Larry,
Thx for the prompt response/answer. I shall dig deeper into the harness next weekend !!
Also, thx RidinSunshine for the advice on the lighter socket. I have done a lot of searching and found lots of options - all of course cheaper than Triumph's. The thing to watch out for is the rated wattage as some of these sockets will only handle low power - enough for the charger but not for accessories such as heated clothing, etc.
I had a triumph one on my previous Speed Triple and it was not waterproof. I have found best ones to be from a yacht shop and these are not only waterproof but high power rating and reasonably priced.
Thx again guys,
neilH
