Other Motorcycle: Can't afford two!
Extra Motorcycle: Three would be insane
You may find it's not worth it when you consider you will have to pay shipping, port expenses and new vehicle excise duty. then you will have the paperwork and legwork to get it registered. Finally you will have toi swap the headlamp to a lh dip unit, and you will end up with a bike that while it is identical to a UK model will likely have a lower resale because of the personal import aspect.

No, I haven't gone through the above myself.

Just remember; an awful lot of the free advice you will get on forums is worth exactly what you paid for it. There will always be somebody trying to convince you to do something really stupid, just because they did it or want to do it.

Hi Mick,

Thanks for that, it's not a brand new bike, rather one with some slight damage that's MUCH cheaper than buying a new one.
If the shipping/duty cost aren't excessive, it MAY make sense.
Not 100% sure about the title/registration aspects though.

If you get the US reg document i think they call it the Pink Slip you should have no problem getting it registerd here the only problem i can see is if it was declard a right off in the states then all you will get here is a Q plate I got a T140 Bonneville from the states did not have to much trouble

The bike has an "ohio salvage title"
is this a problem? is this not a pink slip?
Thanks
Simon

Not 100% here but i think the salvage title is the same as a insurance right off here maybe one of are American friends could shine a bit more light on it for you if it is i would leave well alone some good second hand rockets to be had here

Yes, a salvage title means it is an insurance write-off. This is not done for "slight" damage. It means the insurance company figures it's too expensive to repair, relative to market value. Add the shipping and regulatory expenses, and I can just about guarantee you will not end up with a bargain!

If you were here in person and could evaluate the mechanical condition carefully before buying, that would be one thing--but as is, you're buying a pig in a poke, and this seldom works out well.
