Has anyone come up with a way to direct engine and fan heat from the riders right leg? I'm in Phoenix so I know the weather is hot but even in 80 Degrees its a problem. The right side gets so hot that you want to get off the bike. Fluids are fine and fan is working. Looks like I could use some type of deflector to redirect the heat. Thanks for any inout.

You might want to have the dealer check it out... you may have a corupt tune that is causing excessive heat, this has happened before.

I'm in the Kansas City area where it routinely gets into the 90s if not the 100s and I don't have an abnormal heat problem. Sure its hot... but thats because... the ambiant air temp is hot. Its by no means unbearable.

I have looked at the backside of the radiator and I don't know why you couldn't make up some covers that have angled louvers in them to direct the hot air outwards. I don't know how effective this would be... only testing a set would tell. The big problem with this is the chrome plating... if you can even find a place (almost impossible) they are outrageously expensive and take forever. These covers would almost have to be painted....

Rivco flange covers do help deflect the heat. "Engine ice" -type coolin' liquid also helps. Somewhat.

But this beast does produce a strong and long heat wave, no matter the tune, as described above. Particularly in slow-moving or jammed traffic conditons.

The good news is that it's not indicative of a cooling system malfunction at all (one could instantly fry eggs on a Dodge Viper hood, as Car & Driver once reported). The so-so news is that you've got to keep your right leg away from the hot wave. That is, at stoplights, plant your LEFT leg on the asphalt (know it's NOT biker natural) and give the right one a break by moving it up and back and away. And, yes, wear good-quality (as in "thick") jeans and boots.

I have the same concern.

I’ve narrowed my bike choices to the Triumph, HD Road King Classic, and the Victory Kingpin. One of the few quibbles I have with the RIII is the engine heat. I definitely felt it on my test ride (I live in the Phoenix area as well). I would like to be able to hop on my bike for a short ride to the store without gearing up a pair of jeans just do I don’t burn myself.

Hi' I love it. I did a tour in the U.K. years ago up on the wash. Hunstanton. The Blokes were overheating at anything over 65 Deg's Here in Phoenix the weather is running around 105 Degs. You are right I Have been riding to the Gym to workout around 4:30 Am in shorts. Its around 90Degs. Thats part of the problem. But its still very hot with Levis on. The dealer is going to check the MAP. He says it only takes a couple of minutes . It was set-up for off road with TOR's and Cat removed. As For the gentleman not knowing weather to by The Triumph or the Harley I have both and the Triumph wins hands down. Contact me at macmolly@cox.net if you have any questions. Next I'm going to devert some of the top radior flow away from the engine. When the fan comes on it like heat from a stove.
Thanks
