Hey Guys

For the ones that have changed oit their oil tanks....

How much did you have to remove to get the tank changed out...?

I just looked at how hard it is going to be to change it out...Do you have to remove the throttle body to get the long bolts out...???

Also I was asked to post pics...I will try to get it done...asap...

Thanks for any help on this..

I put the chrome oil tank on but I had the boys at the shop do it as from what I understand it is a big ol pain in the arse. Of all the things I have done to the bike, that one piece of chrome was incredibly expensive and buyers remorse hit hard. However, I love the way it looks and the black ones I see on stock bikes to me are another place Triumph oopsed in the design category. That and the naked headers that everyone covers with Rivco chrome. Good luck if you do it yourself!

Joey...

I went down and looked at mine (I haven't changed out an oil tank) and it looks dismal. You could try loosening both of those long bolts as far as possible and see it the tank will tip out far enough to loosen them completely, then pull the tank out with the bolts still in the tank. You may have to loosen the three small clamps that hold the throttle bodies to the head so you could pull that assembly up a tad. Remove the chrome bear claw so you can get in there and work. If this doesn't do it you will probably have to pull the whole thing apart. You may have to anyway... just to get to the hoses back there.

Yikes....

Tomo

PS... on page 9.16 of the service manual it says to remove the throttle bodies....

TOO HARD... TOO HARD... That's what I enjoyed about the BMW club I was a member of. We would get together once in a while and just do stuff to our bikes collectively. The club owned a set of tools and we had advice on tap from some members who worked on the things full time. Mind you more drinking than working me thinks! :chug: :-g

Yeah, it is a pain. If you want to do it yourself, you should have the shop manual. I tried to remove the stock tank myself to paint it last winter, but it was such a pain (very tight confines) that I said forget it and had my dealer swap out the tank at the 10k service. Save yourself the headaches and let the dealer techs mess with it.

I think ya'll are right....
I stripped the bike down to have it clear coated...

But Too close to all that throttle body and fuel injection stuff. Heck it looks like a super pain just to remove the air box.

Thanks...I will let the techs do it.

Hey Guys..

Sounds like a plan to me...But I don't think you and I would do so good down at Steves house...

Don't think we can stand to upside down that long, and I don't have any velcro on my seat..
