Info in the FAQ sticky suggests that the V rated front tyre "will not match" the V rated rear tyre.

While this may be technically correct, the difference in the stength of two tyres is minimal.

The "H" tyre is rated for continuous operation up to 190kph (118mph) and an outright operation of 210kph (130mph).

The "V" rated tyre is rated for continous operation of up to 210kph (130mph) and an outright operation of 240kph (140mph).

I have an "H" front tyre fitted because the importers were out of stock of the "V" rated tyre and I've got a long ride coming up. There is no difference in look, feel or handling but I guess I wont be able to travel at any more than a constant 190kph anymore. Bummer!

Davo,

Given that those are the standards for the tires, I'd bet my pink slip that there's a fudge factor built in - you can probably ride 140mph all day on that H rated tire.

Not really an issue in the USA.

Heat build up is the main issue. To oversimplify the subject there is a flat spot at the bottom of the tire known as the footprint. At high speeds this area has to take the shape of the road and then go back to being round. This flexing a:causes heat.
b: takes time.
The faster you ride the further around the tire for the shape to recover which can lead to nasty things happening such as,in extreme circumstances, a second ripple before the first has resumed normal shape. I suspect that the difference between a V and H rated tire would be close but you would be betting a lot more than your pink slip if you decided to prove conclusively one way or the other.
