No problems here after 14500 miles.
Virtually every moto forum I have been on has many tales of breaking bikes. Hell, one guy even set up his own website specifically to trash the suzi LC 1500 Intruder, a bike loved by the vast majority of owners for its comfort and reliability. I bought the bike despite his rantings and was very happy with it....till the Rocket came along.
In order to truly tell if a particular design is flawed we would need to look at the repair records of all the bikes sold, know how they were treated by the owner, and any other special circumstances.
As far as I am concerned the Rocket is as reliable as any other bike I have owned. Am I just lucky or are the problems exxaggerated because problems are what people report....not daily reliability.

I have about 10.8K on mine now, even though the odo says 17.8K. The only trouble (other than odometer, obviously) is a heck of a clatter from the cam chain area on start up. Haven't had time to get it to the dealer.
I agree with you and sbljr, people like to complain and that has to be heard through a filter. However, the folks here have all been very good about just stating the facts, getting it fixed and moving on. EJmoment showed outstanding class when his Rocket transmission blew during his 2 week vacation. Regardless of the reaction though, if it broke, it broke.
You're absolutely right, IMO, we need to gather more facts about owners, bike condition, etc, to really gauge the reliability. Did you notice though, the last 2 trannys to blow were on Jardine equipped bikes? Owners obviously likely to use the bike as intended. One member said to leave the secondarys in - he'd already been through 3 clutches. The Rocket is being sold as a power cruiser, but I have an idea Triumph knows its limits at this point and I doubt they'll be marketing parts that make their bikes break more often.
More power to the folks who want to do the research for them though! :-D
