I know that there is quite a bit of Harley bashing that goes on here. As the present and past owner of several Harleys I must respectfully disagree with most of the stereotypes that are posted.

In any case, our local Harley dealer is the proud sponsor of a Triumph making runs in Bonneville this year. Chick Hancock, the owner of Chick' Harley-Davidson in Albuquerque, is a true motorcycle enthusiast and owns a number of significant collectable motorcycles of several brands.

I don't know what kind of Triumph this is, but I think it is a beautiful bike. I think Chick is to be credited for sponsoring a brand that is in competition with his own. It shows that true motorcycle enthusiasm can transend brand loyalty and even economic self interest.

Here's the information on the Bike above from the RPM Cycle web site
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RPM Cycle's Alcohol Nitro Fuel Injected Triumph 'Bonneville Racer' Project.

Sponsored by RPM Cycle, Craig Murray and Chicks Harley Davidson of Albuquerque, NM. This bike has a Triumph T-140 motor, Hilborn fuel injection system and a Nourish crank. The head was machined to accept two spark plugs per cylinder which required the fabrication of a new primary case and the addition of a second magneto (see photos).

We had hoped to run 150+ mph plus at the Bonneville Salt Flats this year breaking the existing record of 134 mph in the APS-750 PF Class held by a Harley XR-750. We came close but the meet was cancelled on Wednesday due to heavy rain and winds Tuesday and Tuesday night.
Bonneville Salt Flats Race Week Updates:

Saturday - 8/13/05
Nitro Racer (750cc APS-PF) piloted by Craig Murray ran once on the short track but had to abort the run and turned-out prior to the quarter mile point due to poor track conditions.

Sunday - 8/14/05
They drug the short course Saturday night and it was in very good condition Sunday...for a while.
Craig Murray who needs to go through the licensing process ran twice with a top speed of 128.548 during his first run. That's fast enough to advance him to the next license of between 150 and 175 mph. I'm sure he can taste a new speed record. His run today was only 5 mph away from the existing record for his class.

Monday:
The Nitro Racer has made a best run of 128 MPH but had piston and ring problems requiring a new top end.

Tuesday:
Right now it is raining with some pretty heavy winds. Vehicles have not yet left the impound for return runs, looks like they will run tomorrow instead.

Wednesday:
Meet is cancelled due to water on the track.
The meet is cancelled due to track condition after Tuesday's rain.

Hey ROCKETNM!!!

Forgive us for flinging a little poo in Harley's direction. When you are that big you are bound to catch a little.

You are right.... there are many great people in the world of Harley Motorcycling... I know a few myself... and I've owned and worked on a lot of Harley stuff in the past....

That Triumph Racer is an antique.... A T140 motor is probably an old Bonnie Motor from the early 70's. A Nourish crank is a special handbuilt unit... high dollar stuff. And if I remember right Hilborn fuel injection is an upside down flat slide carb that has no float bowl or float and the gas flows by gravity to the upsidedown needle controlled by the upsidedown carb slide. It basically drains gas in a somewhat controlled fashion into the intakes. The Hilborn is a story in itself... someone find something on this and post it :-D

That is a neat bike. It has the old Meridian Triumph Logo on it. We are now on our second new Hinkley logo.. bet ya didn't know that.....

Tomo

I must confess that I did not know the change in logos. I note the difference in the "swoosh" from the letter R that wraps around part of the letter H. What did the original Hinkley logo look like?

Look at the 2005 accessory catalog in the upper left hand corner of this page. The 'swoop" comming out of the "R" goes to the 'H" and stops. Now go to the Triumph home page...

Triumph

The "swoop" goes into the "H"....

I know... not a big change.... compare it to the old Meridian Logo on the racer....
