That's a good one... :-D
Lets see....too dramatic? Too comedic? Too tragic?
I think maybe he was afraid of all the attention he would get if he bought one...well we all know about that and we all love it.
The Rocket is not for shy people.

Yep I recall that's the dealer who was discounting below what another dealer on this forum said was his cost. There was a link showing they really were being advertised cheap but whether it was "bait & switch" baloney I don't know. You see a lot of those on Cycle Trader's dealer ads--call them up and the one that had an incredible price is always sold but they just happen to have a real deal if you want to step up a little...

Hey Swanee, We winge about being over regulated here in Australia (draconian speed fines, noise police, zero tolerance in some states etc) but at least there are very strong laws admistered by the aptly named Office of Fair Trading to pin down unscroupulous dealers like the dealer above.

Jamie... you're killin' me here. I didn't do any of that stuff when I went to buy my Rocket. I walked in and started to ask if he would take stuff like handguns on trade... or remote control model air planes.... or a moldy old cat with a twenty taped to his head. Let's face it.... I walked in to the dealership and dropped my pants right then and there. I wasn't worried about being too theatrical... I wanted a Rocket...
These people that pull this stuff have buyer's remorse even before they buy it... what fun is that? These are people that have probably never drank whiskey :-D :-D

Dave, we're over-regulated too in some areas but that's not one of 'em. Be warned there are scalawags and scoundrels everywhere ready to help you lighten up that burdensome wallet, and nothing is ever done unless they cross the line into criminal fraud, and then the ones who can afford good lawyers usually weasel out. This is where PT Barnum (or somebody like that) said "nobody ever went broke overestimating the gullibility of the public."

The local dealer has red Rockets discounted $1000, black ones get $500 store credit. No, I'm not trying to start a color war :-D , just stating the facts. I'm not certain he's even unloaded all of the original 6 ordered in spring 2004, so it's time to discount. He started throwing the TORs in earlier this summer. Apollo 18 mentioned his dealer was at $13,999.
I'm surprised to hear there is a shortage anywhere because my impression to this point was that they have not been selling well. I talked to a classic bike magazine publisher in Sturgis, and while Triumph agreed to advertise with him it wasn't for the Thruxton or Bonneville that he thought more appropriate, but for the Rocket. This led to speculation that perhaps they weren't selling as well as hoped.
I'd love to be able to get some actual U.S. sales numbers.

On CycleTrader.com you can buy Rockets all day long for $1000 or more under MSRP. This suggest to me that there in no shortage in the good old US of A.

That's correct, I'm picking up my R3 Friday. $13,999.00 , pus the taxes, freight, etc . 3.9% financing, and they would have knocked 15% off of the accessories costs, and mounted them per gratis. But, after reading the forums, I know that there are some aftermarket add-ons that I'll want instead.
Last I talked to to manager, all the colors were available. The financing promo ends tomorrow, and I don't know how long the sale price will run.
I noticed that the dealership in Des Moines also had a R3 marked down about $800.00 when I stopped in just to gawk.

Rocket III
M.S.R.P. $15,990.00*
Our Price $12,983.00*
this is the Chattanooga dealership, and he has a thing on his web site saying they don't do bait and switch, the price advertised is the price...??? They have 17 in stock ready to go??? So they say....maybe I should fly out from Seattle and ride one home...I would have to stop for 500 mile oil change in St. Louis....
Is this for real????

I was telling an R3 owning American friend who lives here near Noosa about the cheap deals at Chattanooga Triumph.
His comment: hey just wait a few more days, you might pick up a semi submerged one a heck of a lot cheaper!
I take it from this comment that Chattanooga is also in the storm path? Sounds like a lot of folk are doing things real tough at the moment. We havn't had any flood appeals here like what we saw with the Tsumami so I take it America can look after itself in these situations? ... I guess there are appeals happening within America, 30 Billion damage they are saying. Any comment.
