Hi,
First off, having been laid off from a manufacturing job, my conscience has allowed me to only buy American made bikes for years. I find it a struggle to buy "foreign" products. I like the concept of globalization but I am disheartened by the instability that it causes America’s blue-collar workers (the little guys). However, I have realized that the U.S.A. does have a few true allies, one of which is our steadfast friends in Great Britain.
Having made the realization that we are all in this together, I decided it would be OK to buy U.K. products and help support their economy.
That being decided I bought a Triumph Rocket III. I love the bike!!! However I need some new handlebars. Where can I find some large diameter bars that I can hide my wires like I did on my Harley's? I know of Thunderbike's drag bars but I want some big fat ape hangers or something unique.
Any suggestions?
Phatdad

Hey Fatdad, I'll have you know old pal that America has more than one true ally. Are you forgetting that Australia along with GB and small group of other nations are the only ones willing to stand beside America in the current Middle east conflict? Are you forgetting that many true blue Aussies have laid down their lives for the ideals that we as nations share in common? Are you forgetting that many of our young men and women are presently breathing desert dust alongside your finest? Are you forgetting that we have turned over some of our homeland to accommodate your satelite dishes and other security networks? Are you forgetting that the majority of Americans and Australians share the same Anglo-Saxon-Celtic heritage and are you forgetting that an aluminium foundry in the state of South Australia makes all the cast wheels for every model Harley-Davidson ever made?
So Fatdad, if they made motorsicles right here in Australia, man, you'd sure have to consider one of ours too but since they don't, I'll forgive you if you buy a Rockett III from the Limeys. :-D :-D :-D

Man, man.
If everybody would reason like that there would be no international trade, nobody would buy others countries products.
I understand that you like your little island, I like my country too, but there is a world out there you know.

My conscience would not allow me to buy or purchase overpriced or substandard machinery. Harley makes both at the same time. Granted they are beautiful, but just like the American Auto industry, they rest on their laurels and think the consumer is stupidand won't demand better.
As a H-D rider for several years, and now with switch to the Rocket, can you say that the Triumph is a superior chunk of engineering; and despite its huge size is evem more nimble than the smaller H-D's?
As for the ape-hangers, the Rocket may be a tad fast for those. Just sayin' But if you do 'em, please show a picture.
Now the Ally question. There is only one country who has supported us in every conflict. It's Australia.

Hiya Phatdad... by now you wish you hadn't played the politics card right off the bat eh!? never mind buddy. I guess a lot of pipe bars will fit the Rocket but as Aussie Davo says you will need to change the lines. However there are T-bars made by Thunderbikes in NZ and they are different and you won't have to change anything. Your local supplier is newr3... Page Title.. NewR3... Or go direct... Page Title.. Thunderbikes
Hope this helps... God bless America!

I saw a Rocket at the Baxter rally with a drag-style bars that looked made for it, but not sure if it was a custom job or what since I couldn't locate the owner to ask him.
Gobs of aftermonger bars should be usable on the Rocket I would think, don't know anything about phat ones for cable tunneling though. Myself I like everything out where I can get to it easy on the road if the need arises. An "industry-standard" (for cruisers) 1" bar is what the Rocket has, even though I hate to tell ya but you now own a bike which is mostly on that commie plot unAmerican "metric" system

My appologies for forgetting to mention Australia and others. My narrow mind was focused on the fact that my new bike was made outside the USA. I know that many countries build great products too.
By the way, I lost a great job to out-sourcing. Several Chinese people now collect my paycheck. I buy American as much as possible so that people like me can keep their jobs. It gets harder every day.
Peace,
Phatdad

Just Curious, Where do you find only American made products? How much shopping at Almart do you do?
You don't really believe that your antiquated HD leaker is All American made do you? How many of their Boutique items do you own? most of which are made in Singapore, Taiwan and China.
Not trying to pick a fight, I'm as Red,white and blue as they come. I just get real infuriated when I see writeups like this. Harley Davidson is one of the WORST examples of what this country is capable of building. They have some of the best marketing individuals in the world to be able to peddle the tin plate, under-powered, ill handling beasts that they build.
Oh and all the little chrome bits that are all through the stores that Everyone puts on their bikes....Come in big brown boxes stamped "MADE IN CHINA" :hammer:

It's not about Harley, it's about jobs and the financial stability of this country. What store can buy more than it sells and stay in business?
And you are right about all the Harley parts made elsewhere. That made it easier for me to cross over.
I've been gouged by my local dealer enough. Thank heavens for Ebay. Buy just about every chromed doodad there.
Doesn't seem to be much available for the rocket yet.
