Hi Fatdad, I forgot to mention in my haste... Welcome to the forum! Sorry that my first post stirred up so much negativity for you. I understand the frustrations that you must feel loosing your paycheck to several Chinese but at the end of the day there is no easy answer. we have those same problems here in Australia. Anyway, again, welcome and great to have you on board

By the way, I have no beef with the Chinese, just the corpoarate pigs and greedy stockholders who disregard the lives of the American working man and his family who have worked hard for years only to be sold out.
Thanks for welcoming me.
PS my boots are made from Australian Kangaroo hide. Is that good or bad?

Hell man, that's good! One less kangaroo means more grazing land for the outback station owner and less chance of a biker coming to grief at dawn or dusk. Those dam critters have a lousey grasp of Australian road rules!

Davo,

You have to remember that you're talking mostly to Yanks here and we have been brainwashed into thinking that killing any animal for any reason is a "bad thing". It's almost a knee jerk reaction. Even for me.

I have been down under several times on business and to see friends. The first time I mentioned those cute kangaroos, I was informed that they were a PITA. I can't actually quote the response here because it surely would be ******* out! LOL! Plus I don't write well in strine. I then asked about the kuala bears. Surely, those adorable cuddly little balls of fur are loved by all Aussies. Wrong! The answer I got made the roos look like angels! And cuddly? I was reliably informed that if you pick up a kuala and cuddle the little darling, you are very liable to see your intestines laying on the ground!

BYW, had a kangroo filet in Adelaide. One of the finest pieces of meat I've ever eaten!

I wonder which is worse... plowing into a Kangaroo or a Moose?
We have these "cows" on stilts known as Moose here in Maine. 1200 lbs (545 kilos I think) 6 feet off the ground. Make a hell of a mess out if cars and bikers. We're taught to aim for the back legs if they run out of the woods in front of us.

Much the same I would think. The smaller roos (called wallabies) seem much faster and can dart out real quick. These are big enough to take your front wheel out before you know it, but if you get a big red or grey bounce out when he shouldn't, it could be as bad as hitting your moose or deer for sure.

One of your Stateside Rocketeers hit a deer not so long ago. He just managed to wrestle the Rocket to a stop but did serious leg damage to himself and passenger. Cant remember who it was.

And Let's not forget the Bear! My Sister and Brother-in-law hit a black bear rounding a corner at about 35mph. It came down off a field right in front of them. Bent the bike pretty good, and she ended up with a broken leg and some preetty bad road rash.

The Bear it was no where to be seen. He just walked off in to the woods

Anyway, here we really have to worry about the Drop-bears right Davo!? You can come to real grief walking under a gum tree minding your own business when... WHAMO!! Blinky the Drop-bear does the jump on you. I tell you it's down right dangerous!

Phatdad,

I'll vouch for your comments on moose! I darn near hit one of them in New Hampshire last September.

I rented a Road King from the HD dealer in Concord and spent a day riding in the White Mountains National Park north of Laconia. I came blasting (well, 70-75 mph is "blasting" for a Harley, right? LOL!) down around a curve in Crawford's Notch and, out of nowhere, there's this HUGE freaking moose just standing in the middle of the road!! Locked up the brakes and skidded to a stop no more than 10 feet away. The moose was totally unconcerned about all the screeching rubber noise and just stood there! We looked at each other for a minute or two and then he slowly ambled across the road into the trees. It was clear that he considered both me and the Harley to be inferior creatures. What a monster! I'm 6' tall and his haunches were above that. I'm from NE Penna. and know all about deer but that thing made a deer look like a bloody midget! Forget about a motorcycle, if you hit something THAT big in a car, then your local funeral director is gonna have a better than average year!!
