Does anyone know if the rocket is OBD ll compliant and if it can be scanned with one.
Sorry I have to fix everything it's in my nature. When this bike is out of warranty it's all mine and I have to be able to adjust it.
Any help that I can get will be greatly appreciated, and anything I find out I will post.
I do have some experience I owned a motorcycle repair shop for 5 years in the 70's I built a lot of Triumphs. I've been a auto electrician for 30 yrs ASE certified master mechanic for 20 yrs. owned auto electric shop for 30 yrs.
If it possible to figure it out and or make an adapter I'm gonna do it. Then I could use an computer interface and program it with the oxygen sensor still on line. :hammer:

rock-nken,

There was a forum member (ToyStoreTom I think) that hooked-up an ODB-II scanner to his Rocket and was able to see basic protocol information.
Not sure which format he was using:
OBD-II, SAE J1850 for GM is VPW (Variable Pulse Width) Protocol
ODB-II, SAE J1850 for Ford is PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) Protocol
Chrysler is some other SAE spec. J1970 I think.

Try either GM or Ford scanner. Nothing will get damaged. If wrong protocol you will just get garbage on scanner. Correct protocol will give you readable code display where Triumph and SAE J1850 match.

The Rocket III motorsickle made by the Triumph Motorsickle Company is OBD II compatable.

I just hooked up my Calsonic Cheapo OBD II scanner to it and can pull DTC's, clear DTC's, view freeze frame data and view live data from the sensors.

Of course, the bike caught on fire and burned to the ground.
(Just kidding... no it didn't)....

Have a nice day!!!!

Valkyrie111,

You must think me lazy for not ferreting (searching) the ODB-II thread/post out for rock-nken!!
At least I got the forum member correct.
You going to the Mid PA Salvo???
Some refreshments on me for doing what I should have done.

One other thing...the better scanners will automatically switch to the correct protocol they are receiving from an ECM. It takes a few seconds for the scanner to interpret the format it is receiving and then it switches.

You can just use a generic OBD II scanner. If you use the Ford, GM, Chry, Nissan, ect... you will have to use their adaptor. By using a generic you can read and erase codes, view freeze frame data, and view real time data. If you just use a code reader thats all you will get is codes.

If I remember correctly... the Rocket shop manual only lists a few trouble codes, not hundreds like the cars do. Most of the time your malfunction indicator lamp will go out after 3 cycles if the fault is corrected and the code erased after 40.

What do ya need??? I can probably set ya up... I've played with this quite a bit....

Thanks fellow rocket riders
Thanks for the info. I have a scan check made for snap on by a british builder. It does almost everything obd 2 and can cars. It should interface with the rocket. I just got my factory manuel today and it looks like even when the dealer wants to change the computer settings they have to get a code from Triumph. That makes me think if all I need is to run a little richer put a resistor on the oxygen sensor output wire.
I let the dealer try to fix it before I do anything. I bought it to ride I'm tired of fixing things.
I haven't heard from the dealer today. I called them yesterday and they told me the service manager rode the bike. Rode the bike! I can ride the bike. How about checking it to see if it is too lean. :hammer: Check oxygen sensor range, exhaust gas analizer. rode the bike  I told them the bike ran great just exaust way too hot. Well I guess it's good to have them check it all out and ride it to see if they find something. It's just that I want to ride it I only had it three days.

I posted on this subject a while ago, You can use the OBDII reader. All P0*** codes are generic to all makes, P1*** codes are brand specific. The triumph shop manuals explain what the P1 codes are and how to trouble shoot them. I paid about $250 Cdn for mine, and the triumph diagnostic tool was quoted at $2700 Cdn. While the Diagnostic tool does a whole lot more than the OBDII, the OBDII can reliably read codes and reset the ecm.
