I know there have been a lot of posts about aftermarket pipes. I was wondering of those that have the D & D pipes what they liked about them. What is everyone's opinion on these pipes. They seem like the best bang for your buck.

We put D&D's on my wife's and we like them. She likes the look of the clean left side but I think I like the looks of the pipe on that side also. A big improvement on the performance but you do get some popping which I do not mind. Kind of sounds like a turbo Porsche. I do not find the noise at all offensive but our other bikes are loud so these pipes sound quiet. Best bang for the buck I think.

I wanted to know about the sound of the D & D's??? I had always heard of D & D being known for there loud pipes.
Has anyone actually heard these pipes compared to the other's on the market, and if so, how do they rate with overall loudness???
Also, does anyone know where I can find and buy the pipe that will eliminat my CAT box????? I have looked everywhere and I can't find where I buy this. This is a mod that I want to do ASAP becuase I heard it will increase power and increase the sound level.

I have D&D's on my Rocket, and I LOVE the sound. I've had several people tell me that it sounds like a Turbo Porsche. Very throaty when you get into the throttle and very smooth at idle. It's like no other sound out there.
Throw in a Power Commander for extra sound and a whole lot more performance. You better have Popeye's forearms to hang on if you decide to floor it in 2nd or 3rd gear.
I got all my stuff from here.

I probably have one of the first sets of D & D's on my R3 as they were only on their website for a few days when I ordered them. The stock pipes had to go! The pipe set includes the pipe that eliminates the cat. Between the weight of the stock three pipes and the really heavy cat, you probably lose a good 20-25# by installing the D & D's. A nice plus!
Fit and finish are first class and install was a breeze. Had a LOT of backfiring on decel and the optional Triumph factory maps did nothing to stop it. Added a Power Commander and used the Jardine map. Figured they are very similar. They are! Had the bike dynoed and it was dead on! And the backfiring disappeared totally, under any conditions.
Sound? Frankly, I was expecting them to be louder considering they are from D & D who is famous for LOUD! They are a huge improvement from the stock pipes however and the bike has a mean growl as you crank the throttle. It does sound good but it's not gonna set off any car alarms as I can easily do with the Sceptre pipes on my really fast red America. I guess you could say they're politically correct with an attitude.
Power? Very significant increase over stock. Big surprise, huh?
In the interests of the forum, maybe we ought to get one each of the various piped R3's together some weekend and record them for others to compare. I'll volunteer my shop in NE Penna. for the meet and I've got the D & D's covered. It's a thought!

Hey Zilla!!!
We can compare Mad Doggies to D&D this weekend at Baxter's rally....
O-State...
If you get D&D's you don't need a cat bypass... If you stay with the three muffler configuration then you can get the cat bypass from Triumph itself... just order one from any dealer.

Tomo, I'm looking forward to it. I'm very curious to hear what the mad dogs sound like.
There's a pretty killer bike night on Thursday night in Des Moines at a bar called Trophies. Plenty of beer, grilled food, women, and cool bikes. If you can make it up for that, it would be well worth it. Usually there's about 500 - 600 bikes there, and my Triumph steals the show every single night. The crowd LOVES the Rocket III.
The minute I get into the parking lot, I'm surrounded by HD owners who all want to look at it, and ask questions. It's a good hour before I can get away and get a beer.
Last week there was a dyno trailor there charging $40 for their service. I had 3 people offer to pay for my dyno, because they were curious as to what it could do. They were impressed with some custom chopper that put out 112 to the rear wheel. *yawn*
I'll dyno it some day, but not at a bike night with some goofball running the throttle.
Anyways, if you can make it up for that, its a fun night. Me and my bonnneville owning friend will be recruiting people to head over to the Marne rally on Sunday.

Thank you for the great advise, and if you guys could compare the 2 exhaust systems that you have, we would pretty much have all of them.
There are already sound bytes of the Jardines, and the Stock system with the Cat bypass, so the 2 system you guys have would pretty much complete the exhaust sound bytes.
Thank you once again and I look forward to hearing those two Monsters...

It is under the "Rocket Workshop" forum. The 2nd posting is titles "FAQ-Rough Draft"
Just click on that and scroll down, you will see items in red text, those all allow you to click on them.
Look under "Exhaust systems", and you will find the Jardine Sound Byte
Look under "Sound Bytes" and you will find the stock exhaust with CAT Bypass.
Turn your speaker up, the sound comes through my system very life-like and true. And they will at least give you an idea of the sound of those 2 options.
