Rocket III prone to problems?

I pick up my "new" Rocket III this week. It has done 1000ks and still has 8 months factory warranty left. The dealer is offering me extra warranty at cost of around $550 for an extra year. Is it worth it, or are they just after more money?
The reason I ask is that there are a LOT of threads on the Rocket Science Forum to do with R3 problems. I love the bike and look forward to picking it up, but am just wondering about mechanical issues. Do I need to be concerned?

Do you expect people to start threads to say they're NOT having problems? I've never seen anything put matters so out of perspective as the Internet does.

The Rocket is not totally trouble free, and no bike is! As near as I can determine, though, it's no more trouble prone than most. Whether you want an extended warranty is entirely up to your own confidence level, but do understand, it's more of an unregulated insurance policy than it is a true warranty. And yes, the dealer does make money from selling it.

Lenny,
I don't think you need to be concerned about R3 problems, if you look at any motorcycle forum whether its Triumphs, Harleys, Kawis or whatever there are always going to be post about problems. There are thousands of these bikes on the road without any major problems, those posts tend to be towards "look at where I went last weekend" types. Have fun with your new bike!

Extra warranty is not confined to bikes it's been around for years on products, computers, TV's and appliances. It can be lucrative for any dealer, they may pay out on one or two 'policies' but in the main it's good business for them.

If they pay out on you it's your gain, if they don't then you've had peace of mind, that's all you're buying like most insurance.

I wouldn't be concerned. My new bike just had a freak problem and is the first that I know of with the R3's. I'm getting it back this weekend and can't wait. These bikes are awesome. I miss my Bonnie and am intending to get another one, but, I wouldn't trade this R3 for the world. Pick it up nd enjoy. You're in for a thrill.
Later and welcome to the site.

For the minimal cost of $550, I would probably purchase the extended warranty. I have had one on every bike I've owned (except for my Rocket which I purchased pre-owned), and used them. I look at it this way...a potential repair by a Triumph dealer could easily exceed $550 when parts and 2-3 hours labor are factored in. For example, I recently experienced the "ignition failure" this is common to older models, and the dealer quoted me $380 for parts and $250 +/- in labor....

When I bought my Rocket in 2004, I got an extra 4 years through my dealer from Interstate for about $700, so $550 isn't a great deal but if you can afford it, why not?
