Have the short Triumph factory backrest w/luggage rack but the wife thinks she would be happier with the tall backrest. Just thought i'd offer it up for trade if anyone out there would like the short backrest....before i buy one from the dealer.

Does someone named "Lonerider" really need a passenger backrest?

JP,
My wife is complaining that even the tall backrest is TOO low. Keep in mind that I have the Corbin Dual which is thicker and sets higher too. I'm trying to figure a way of making my sissy bar taller.
Any ideas on a fix (besides getting rid of my wife) would be appreciated.

I have the same seat with the tall backrest. I guess the Corbin passenger backrest doesn't fit?

Do you have to buy a complete luggage rack/backrest kit to get the tall backrest? It kinda looks that way on the Triumph website--the only thing they show a la carte are the pads. If that's the case I might be interested in your old setup but it would need to be the whole thing.

Ron,
How much higher did the Corbin dual touring seat elevate the Mrs? I'm thinking of getting one, but don't want to run into the same problem.

Steve,
It looks to be about 2". The tall OEM backrest comes up to the small of the back which is ok for most people. She's just used to my old backrest which was middle of the back height. she likes taking a "nap" when we're riding. She would like it about 4" taller.

thanx for all the replies......but i still need a tall backrest! I've got the corbin dual tour also. Also have the Corbin backrest with glove box but the corbin backrest angle is more verticle than the Triumph back rest. Can't put much on the luggage rack with the glove box backrest on the bike....so when we're touring i put the factory backrest on with luggage on the rear rack. Wife likes the angle of the factory backrest for long trips...more comfy for those combat naps!! I will have to ask the dealer if you can buy just the backrest....seems as though you should be able to buy the parts :-D :-D
P.S. Boise, Idaho.....just south of Canada, east of Washington, west of Montana, and north of Nevada....the land of dust and taters!!

This may be tantemount to high treason but I believe I have the answer. I fitted a backrest from the Hardly-Defeated catalogue. It is the Road King Classic "Compact" backrest.

Fitting requires the slight elongation of the lower mounting holes on the stock R3 sisst bar with a rat-tail file and the drilling of one new top hole approximately in the centre of the existing top holes. To clean up the appearance from the rear, just pace two dummy chrome button head screws and nuts in the two vacant holes.

I have this pad mounted on my low sisy bar however there is nothing stopping the mounting of the pad onto the taller sissy bar.

This pad, being the "Compact" model, does not look too large or out-of-place on the Trumph, it has curvature in it's shape and projects above the sissy bar by 75mm (3") to provide greater back support. Passenger comfort is greatly enhanced by this mod. In short, it's the ducks guts!
