My Dealer here in Montreal suggests using Hagon shocks, they seem to have a full range of shocks for most bikes and they are made in England, does anybody have any thoughts on this brand? They also seem to be cheaper than Progressives according to their web site. They also custom build shocks to your specifications. Thanks in advance

Hey Rthree, cant tell you much about the Hagons, but I can tell you that the Progessives are a huge improvement over stock and are probably the most popular retro fit on the forum.

Much has been said in their favour so it might be better to stump up the little extra and go with the "known quantity".

I put Hagon on my '75 Trident, That's about as far as you would go using hagon. don't even think about them for a bike like the Rocket. I would keep the standard shocks before replacing them with hagon.
Spend the money on GOOD shocks you will be pleased with the result. Wilbers or Progressives seems the way to go....

Hello Rthree,

Have a look on this :
Shocks test
Interesting informations about different shocks.

About the R III. This powerfull heavy bike with shaft drive require stiff shocks with limited travel for a good handling.
Fournales Magnum, Progressive 440, Wilbers 630 are all on the "stiff side" and with the correct setting they are a good improvement over the stock shocks.

There's lots of manufacturers like the french one EMC (T18 ref. for the R III), who custom build shocks to your specifications with different result and reability.

I think that the quality of the rear shocks (and fork's springs too) are particularly important for the R III.
Unfortunately good shocks are expensive. I don't know the Hagon but be carefull with "exotic" and cheaper brands of shocks.

Good word of CAUTION from TrackerJ. My Wilbers were built to MY specs (weight, riding style, etc.) but, initially, they do feel stiff. About as stiff as the OEM units, quite frankly!!! The difference is rebound damping, vastly improved. So is, quite noticeably, the bike rear stability when charging hard on bad roads.

They need a break-in period, says a long-time (motocross) Wilb expert here... and then, they need a rider/tester who can experiment with their almost unlimited adjustability until the magic "right setting", or range of settings, is discovered. We'll see :???:

PS. To TrackerJ: They, the Wilbs, don't look all that bad, once installed on the bike.
