Has anyone installed the knees pad on the fuel tank ? What is the best method for getting them in the right spot the first time ?

Avoid these sticky, ugly and utterly useless pads in the first place.
That is unless we're talking about BLACK RIII's, in which case, YES, anything, pads, badges and other stickers, that masks that non-colour is tasteful. But yours is RED. Let it glow.

I used a little felt tip "Sharpie" while holding the pad in place with the backing still on. When your satisfied with placement, peel off a little backing, and apply, holding firmly. The part that's sticking will now help steady the remaining pad while you peel and apply.

DO THE LEFT SIDE FIRST. That's the one that's all chopped off.

Now, use a ruler to measure a couple of reference points, like the very rearmost point of the left pad to the contoured rearmost part of the tank (it's about an inch, I think). Use your sharpie and make the same mark on the right side. Do another measurement of the top of the pad.

If all this doesn't seem to work...don't worry about it. These tanks and pads have such screwy compound curves, who could ever tell if they're on straight?
