I mentioned a problem to Lol last week with my R3 will not up-shift when I'm looking for the next gear (in all gears), it's done this since new [August 2004] and the dealer reckoned it just needed shift lever adjustment - did this and no better. He then suggested cable adjustment - still no better. Then he said it needs more miles - 5,000 later and still the same. Swapped with a Fellow R3 rider and he also said it's a gearbox problem.

Good news: gone to another dealer now and he said there's a small spring on the selector drum that's been a problem on a few Rockets ~ bad news is... big jobbies total strip down!

The dealer knows of one R3 that went to the extreme and the box locked into 5th gear however, the engine is so torqueeee that they managed to ride it up onto a trailer without too much trouble! Both Lol & me wonder if others find similar?

Like my gearbox, What's the opposite to NOT IN...

My transmission is silky smooth so far. Sorry to hear about your difficulties.

Mine has been a problem. I have been fighting with mine from time to time to up-shift as well. It just did this for the 1st time last Sunday, I thought it might have been from me trying to up-shift at too low of a RPM.
I only have 450 miles, so at the recommended 600 mile oil change I am going to have them take apart the clutch assembly and take a good look.
I'll post the outcome. If you hear something please let us know.

Mines clunky except when I power shift the bike. It's real smooth then, I wish it would blow up, I'm bored :knkknk:

Had the same prob' the dealer said it was a weak selector return spring. he changed it out and worked fine ever since.
the whole job was three hours, not that big. and no strip down of engine.

Well guys, I took the R3 in for her 10k/12 month nappy [dyper] change today and I was primed and ready for bad news - engine out and total strip down for this ***** spring on the selector drum forks. Anyhow, the mod is all covered on warranty but it still hurts to think she's having major surgery so early in her life.
The pain would have eased a little if they gave me another R3 to come home on or even the Speedmaster but I end up perched on a 600 Speedfour! I'm not the flexible 25 year old I use to be but I'll be back next week to pick her up [if the cramp don't get me first!].

O-State: Hope your's isn't the same problem.

Multibob: The dealer mentioned there is another mod - access possible through the front chrome clutch cover & in behind the clutch, but not possible for mine.
