Ad in this Sunday's Washington Post had a red Rocket w/500 miles on sale for $13900 (U.S.); had a Virginia phone #.

I was surprised by the low price. Ad was not run in today's papers

That is $500 more than a new one from the discount dealer in TN.

Resale values for motorcycles in general are not very good. Investing in a motorcycle is silly. Unless it is a sanity investment.

That's the sad truth about motorcyles. Even Harley-Davidsons are now suffering significant depreciation. The days of riding one for a year and selling it for what you paid for it are over.

Buy to ride.....and then ride, ride, ride. The under stressed Rocket should last 200 k miles plus...and it will never get boring. If it does...get some boost. If it is still boring...well, then your'e gonna need a fighter jet.

They never existed in the first place for the majority who fell for that line. Even in the best days dealer over-pricing and customer over-accessorizing usually resulted in a fair amount of what cpa's would insist is depreciation. How much was actually put into the bike never seemed to be recalled accurately when it was bragging time at the bar

FWIW you can still come out much better than any other marque on a Harley IF you buy it right, are knowledgeable about accessorizing, and don't put way too many miles on it. Just don't expect to ride for free

A few years ago, if you were lucky enough to buy a Harley for at or near MSRP, you could ride it for a year and sell it for about what you paid for it. Those days are now gone as supply has caught up to demand.

I believe I've mentioned the peril of Harley Davidson a few hundred times in this forum before. A noted bike builder seen in Easyrider magazine, and close friend of mine, told me even a lot of the customs being produced are not fetching a good resale price any more. The market is "flooded" with choppers, clones, and Harleys. I had sold my custom Harley for about half of what I wanted and replaced it with a rocketIII...... :moon:
