I have a brand new 05 Triumph Rocket with only 50 miles on it now.
I was sitting at a red light with the clutch pulled in and the bike in 1st gear, I decided to rev the engine (just to show off) and the bike lunged forward and put itself into gear with me still holding the clutch in.
I put the bike in neutral, re-started it, pulled the clutch back in and then went to put it into 1st gear again. As soon as I clicked it into 1st, it lunged forward and stalled out again.
Basically it was like I was never pulling the clutch. This happened over and over for about 5 min. until, just by sheer luck, it went into gear and it was fine the rest of the night.

Please HELP, what could this be????????

Step 1 - Stop showing off. This is a mighty expensive toy to rip apart on its first day.

Step 2 - Read your manual. After reviewing the safety warnings and break-in procedure, go to the page that shows the clutch cable adjustment. Check to see if it's set right.

Step 3 - If it is incorrect, adjusting it will almost certainly take care of the problem. It not, then there's not much you can do about the clutch yourself. Get it back to the dealer for warranty repair.

With 50 miles, it's his first hour!

Look, with the Rocket you just can't help not showing it off.

Had to make a simple clutch adjustment early on, because bike was moving forward. Read the manual and adjust the cable, you'll be fine, O-State........ :chug:

I had just the opposite problem on my first day, the clutch did not have any free play in the cable and the clutch started slipping during a hard pull in top gear. I just started adjusting it while going down the road until it had a little free play in the lever, no more problems.

Thank you for the replies, and you all where dead on, it was the "play" in the clutch lever.
I adjusted it to the recommended 2-3mm and put about 80 miles on it last night without any problems.

Thank you all once again for the advice. It is nice to have a place like this to come to for help...

I grew up in Worthington, and believe it or not I have a lot of friends from UA, and my sister married a Wagenbrenner, they are famous through out there.

What year did you graduate?
