Rocket Backfire
Hi, I am new to this Forum and have only been riding for about a year. I own an 08 Bonneville America which I am trying to sell and an 08 Rocket III Classic. My Rocket seems to be running lean. It is difficult to start when its cold, Not when its cold outside but when the engine is cold. And it kinda burbles through the exhaust at a steady speed. I took it in for its 600 mile checkup and told them I suspected a lean condition. They said it scanned fine and was normal. After that it started backfiring through the intake on occasion. Usually at low rpm if you blip the throttle quickly, but once it even did it when I was stopped and the clutch was in. I blipped the throttle and POP. I took it back in and they said it was fine again. The service rep said it was just the bikes personality and I needed to get used to it cuz its a lot of bike. They also said they couldnt replicate the problem on a test drive. I left and within 2 minutes it backfired in heavy traffic and died. A good way to get killed I suspect.. So now what do I do. Is this common and is there a remedy? Any help would be appreciated. I plan to drag race this bike and need it to run right when the time comes. And I need it to be safe on the street too.
