New brake pad thickness

My 09 RIII has now done 4.4K miles, and I checked the pads which are now down to 3mm of friction material. Does anyone know what the thickness of the friction material is on these brake pads when new?

I guess I'm also trying to decide the old HH Versus organic pads versus the longevity of the rotors. I've already noticed some degree of scoring on the rotors, from the original Bembro pads as fitted from new. I don't brake very aggressively, and use my bike for commuting, so it clocks up a few motorway miles where the brakes simply don't get touched.

Any recommendations / experiences greatly appreciated, searched through the threads, seems like this topic is probably as debatable as the choice of oil...

Cheers
Steve

Try the sintered pads,
I think you'll find they last longer.
Don't know the thickness, just put them on a few hundred miles ago, but I already know they're better.
The cheapest place I've found them is flipmeisters.com.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply Xhdskip, I've currently got Bembro pads on the front and rear as shipped from the factory. I suppose my concern is how quickly sintered pads "eat" the disc rotors, compared to non-sintered pads.

The cost of replacing two pairs of non-sintered pads to every one pair of sintered pads is not a problem when compared to the costs involved in prematurely swapping out the rotors. I'd be interested to konw if anyone has clocked up high-mileages using only sintered pads without excessive wear on the rotors?

b.t.w. for those that want to know, apprently new pads have 5mm of friction material (so mine are not even half worn yet), and should be swapped out when they reach 1mm / 1.5mm.

Cheers
Steve

i fitted hh rears on my rocket.out on it a few days ago and i locked the rear wheel.that has not happened before so i am guessing, they grip a bit more than the original brembos.the bike was 2 up so plenty of weight on it.it was a quick stop from 40 mph.slight slide to the left but all under control
