Mileage Test

I took a 200 mile ride yesterday on my 2008 R3T and watched as the mileage gage hit zero. I continued home and got up the next morning intending to make it to a friend's gas station. The bike died about one mile from the station, just rolled to a stop on the shoulder of the road. I gathered myself and rocked the bike from side to side swishing what was left in the tank. It started and I made it another quarter of a mile before it conked out again. Each time I'd swish the tank and it would start. I made it to a station on my third stop and put in 5.84 gallons. I'd say I was running on fumes. My mileage at that point was 214 miles. Now I know how far she'll really go. LOL I don't recommend trying this without knowing you're within a very short distance to a gas station. I was lucky.

interesting..

i fill up shortly after the gas light comes on even though i know i have lots of miles left. i figure it doesn't really hurt anything to fill up more often and it keeps me from having to worry about it.

Just curious..what was your average speed. I always set my odometer to 0.0 at every fill up and gas up around 180-190. My speeds vary from 55 mph on rural roads to Mach 1 on highway .. Good to know though.

My average speed was around 65-70 as my return trip was on an Interstate.

Re fuel consumption milage Rocket Three 3 late 05
When I bought my Rocket i was keen to compare to
my new Bonneville ( sorry if I seem to boast , cant help )
Im in australia and we have 95ron fuel unleaded wich i
use exclusivley plus an additive Called Bimrose UCL
upper cylinder lube, I have achived 6 lt/100 kilometers on the highway
average cruising with frequent passing trucks etc

I have done 330 ks and when refueling had 4 lt stil in tank
ya cant beat that

I have magdog pipes and 12 min tune it sounds great
great fuel usage and it hasnt been fingered with, that might
be a lesson fellars

I hate stopping for fuel so i always leave it to the last minute to fill up, the good news is on my bike I always have plenty left over to reach a gas station. Unfortunately I do the same thing on my F250 diesel and I've run out of diesel on that a couple of times because there was no diesel stations around and it was a pain in the ... to get going again even after getting a 5 gallon can full of diesel. I guess I should be thinking of changing this practice .

Hi just found this thread, I notice that after converting your figures into imperial measurements, = 1.1 Gallons (UK) per 62 miles, which if I'm not mistaken makes your bike achieve 56 MPG (UK Gallon)!!

What is the major contributing factor, switching to an K & N air filter?
Does the re-map for the pipes make the bike run incredibly lean?

Cheers
Steve

Stevblock re fuel

Hi Steve many thanks for the reply and interest. My Rocket Three is stock only mod is MAD DOG pipes made here in QLD Aust, The 12 min tune remaps the ecu to conditions at the time ,
the UCL additive I use is locally made one we use here in all vehicles, the industry standard for vehicle manurfactures is
printed in Litres / 100 ks a litre is a litre everywhere 'blame that French idoit . Ill promise to do exacting Fuel consumption test with my 500cc burette highway and city, its such a veariable issue , ive seen the word Comparable fuel consumption so what the hells that compared to what?

I have been getting about 14-15 kms to the litre which is about 38 mpg (imp).I was in traffic sometimes and giving it a handful when clear. I just changed my airfilter and Im going on a run next week so I will see if theres a change.
