When changing the final drive oil, is this done with the kickstand down or do you need to level the bike ..?? It doesn't mention anything about it in the owners handbook. Also i've been reading up on Super tech 75w-140 vs Mobil 75w-90 ,seeing how there's maxium shearing going on in there and they say it reduces the whining sound..?? Any thoughts on this..?

I guess know one changes the final drive..? FYI you need to keep the bike level. Word to the wise loosen the drain plug and filler plug before you level the bike. One of those funnels with the flexible hose comes in handy. Keep a oil pan under the filler plug when filling. After seeing the condition of the Final drive oil , i'm changing it on a regular basis.

changed mine last weekend. The procedure is in the factory service manual. Bike needs to be upright, so you did good.

Stayed with Mobil 1 75W-90. I called the tech line and it is equivalent to the Mobilube 75W/90 SHC listed in the shop manual. Mine had some crud on the magnetic plug and the oil was discolored from the spline lube for the bevel box. Flushed it until it ran fairly clear, then filled.

That fill plug is definitely on there tight. 60 Nm. Good advice to loosen before standing the bike upright....that's what I did too.

That's exactly what i did also. I noticed the crud on the plug. I ended up using a piece of 1 3/8" pipe over the wrench to break the plug loose.

Well, viscosity itself has no ability to prevent molecular shear. The two things are largely unrelated. The whining sound is also no indication of same.

Extra viscosity means extra frictional loss in the oil itself and extra heating. I can't think of any legitimate technical reason to use heavier oil than recommended.

I stayed with the Mobil 75W-90,I got caught up in an oil debate on another forum and seems ,well you know how those oil debates go..;)
