My 1000th Mile Ride

Finally, a nice, sunny day. So what if it was 35 degrees when I left home? It was a 180 mile ride from Beaverton, OR to Tillamook, OR via Highway 6, then North up the coast on Highway 101 to Canon Beach just South of Seaside, OR. I wanted to photograph the famous Haystack Rock before heading home on Highway 26 East. As I stood on the same spot on Canon Beach I turned South and Photographed the second shot. I crossed the 1,000 mark on my way back to Beaverton. All in all, a glorious day.

Bob, those are some nice photographs. You've got an eye for great scenery from the seat of your R3T. Thanks for sharing. I've got to make the ride to the Pacific northwest one of these days. Was the ride as great as the scenery?

To be honest the ride there along Highway 6 was rough. There isn't anywhere I could stop & warm up a bit so I froze my rse off. The sun came out once I cleared the Cascade Mountains & approached the costline. I stopped at a McDonald's in Tillamook for a hot cup of coffee & a pisser break. Ahhhhhh!

Bob you missed your calling, you should have been a photographer. If you had the classic or the standard Rocket think how warm you'd be with the heat eminating from the exhaust. I call them NewEngland leg warmers. Glad to see your enjoying the bike. After 1000 miles on the R3 how does it compare to the two BMW's you had..??

Bob,

Beautiful pics! I love that part of the Oregon coast.

Have you ridden close to the Evergreen Museum? I stopped there once to take in the Spruce Goose. I hear there's a new space edition to the museum.

The R3 rocks!

Actually, over the past 23 years I've owned 4 BMWs: a 1985 K100, a 1999 R1200C cruiser, a 2001 K1200LTC, and most recently a 2005 R1200RT. It's hard to compart as they are radically different. The BMWs are high tech fun machine with powerful engine, relatively light weight & good handling. Most of the option, like anti-lock brakes & cruise control were standard on my last 2 BMWs. I miss the cruise control & partially integrated anti-lock brakes.

The R3T is a man's motorcycle, beastlike, powerful, yet smooth, vibration free & just plain fun. I'm enjoying mine more each time I ride it.
