Fuel Tank Removal

Rocketeers,

Any tips or tricks to removing the fuel tank?
I'm getting a custom paint job and I'm disassembling the Rocket.

Looks like it comes off pretty easy...but what about the fuel lines?
Are the "Pressurized" due to the fuel injection?

Any precautions I should take?

Any advice is welcome.

Yes...I've drained the fuel from the tank already.

I removed the fuel pump unit from the bottom of the tank while the tank was still on the bike and just left the fuel lines and wiring hooked up to it. Once the fuel pump unit is removed, just remove the bolt from the back of the tank (hinge area) and take the tank off..

Make sure you get as much of the gas out as possible. Even though the fittings are supposed to stop the flow once disconnected, they don't so well. Also mark the vent lines (there are two) so you know which goes were. There are also some crush washers that will need to be replaced. Gas lines are not pressurized when the pump is not running. And work in a well ventilated area.

Yes.. I also ran all but about 1/2 gallon out of the tank before i removed it. Then I was able to funnel that amount into a gas can..

Thanks for all the responses.
I left the float and sending unit in the tank.
It just seemed easier to leave it alone.
I did mark the hoses though.

It was not that difficult of a task.
The rear fender is more challenging than the fuel tank.

I'll snap some pictures when the paint is done and the bike is back together.
