Talking Milestone reached

It's with great pleasure I can announce that my beloved 1995 Triumph Trident passed the 100k mile mark yesterday on my way home from work. In the thirteen years I've had it, total breakdowns were limited to: One coolant hose at 53k, fork seals at 60k, and the sprag clutch finally went at 96.5k - other than that, all replacement parts have been limited to the usual consumables: Tyres, brake pads, chain, sprockets, cables, etc.

Which means that the bike is essentially 90+% original, including clutch, suspension (the rear could really use a freshening - planned for this winter), brakes, etc. During the teardown for replacing the sprag clutch, all engine internals were well within factory specs and no rebuilding was necessary.

In it's lifetime, the bike took me on a number of RAT Daytona Runs, got me out of town when the Pagans rolled over my first motorcycle club, and got me my current wife. Plans are to put it on light duty and come up with something new for next year. As to what, I'm undecided. Triumph had decided years ago to abandon the heavy sport touring class, and what passes for a touring bike today isn't comfortable enough for the wife over a 300 mile run.

Not having a competent local dealer isn't helping, either.

Congrats on the 100K! I've got a '95 Trident myself and hoping mine lasts that long! Just curious...are your carbs stock?

Everything's stock. This bike has always been my long haul tourer, so modifications were limited to the addition of: 3-bag Givi setup, heated grips, Corbin saddle, Throttlemeister, two BMW plug outlets and a Givi screen.

I've always preferred the quiet stock exhaust on my long haulers. Actually, I'll credit the bike's long life to: a. Religious 6 and 12k services at a dealer, and b. I keep my bloody fingers out of the bike. I know how good of a mechanic I am. I can handle vintage British vertical twins of the 60's and 70's. Beyond that, I'm an excellent bicycle mechanic.

Nice work!

Congrats!!! Always good to hear that our trusty T3's are out there and still going strong. I'm not too far behind you... my Daytona 1200 just past 75K so I'm in the home stretch. Like you I've kept it mostly stock and meticulously maintained. So far I've had to replace the clutch (60K), coils (twice), fork seals (twice) and upgraded the suspension (Penske shock and Race Tech fork springs and Gold Valves). Apart from that it's mechanically stock, just normal wear items. I too added luggage as well as a myriad of minor modifications to make it a comfortable long haul tourer.

Don't demote the Trident, go for 200K but I know what you mean. Without something in their lineup to replace my D12 it's looking like I could end up with an FJR after this. I hope Triumph comes out with a Trophy replacement soon. The Tiger is nice but just doesn't do it nor the Sprint. I've ridden them both and they're great bikes but they're just not for me.
