It's with great pleasure I can announce that my beloved 1995 Triumph Trident passed the 100k mile mark yesterday on my way home from work. In the thirteen years I've had it, total breakdowns were limited to: One coolant hose at 53k, fork seals at 60k, and the sprag clutch finally went at 96.5k - other than that, all replacement parts have been limited to the usual consumables: Tyres, brake pads, chain, sprockets, cables, etc.
Which means that the bike is essentially 90+% original, including clutch, suspension (the rear could really use a freshening - planned for this winter), brakes, etc. During the teardown for replacing the sprag clutch, all engine internals were well within factory specs and no rebuilding was necessary.
In it's lifetime, the bike took me on a number of RAT Daytona Runs, got me out of town when the Pagans rolled over my first motorcycle club, and got me my current wife. Plans are to put it on light duty and come up with something new for next year. As to what, I'm undecided. Triumph had decided years ago to abandon the heavy sport touring class, and what passes for a touring bike today isn't comfortable enough for the wife over a 300 mile run.
Not having a competent local dealer isn't helping, either.
