How can you tell if the bike is Jet Black or Diablo Black?

I wrote to Triumph Australia for more info on my bike. They weren't helpful as the bike must have been imported before Triumph Australia was formed.

If anyone here can help that would be great my final option is to write to the UK.

It's obvious, one is dark black and the other is dark black

Jet is definitely faster than Diablo.

Ive looked at both colors side by side and I can see no difference. Check out the paint codeds from factory.

I would guess as they are manufactured by different companies the name changed but the color is probably exactly the same.

JET BLACK IVC L2344 T3120300-PG
DIABLO BLACK DUPONT BEC 1342 T3120300-PC

I hope that helps you in some way Ivincent

'96 was the last year for diablo black; '97 is when jet replaced it. Australia was one of the first countries to get Hinckley bikes, so if yours really came before Triumph Australia it's a very, very early one indeed!

Your sidebar says you have a Speed Triple, though... If you have a Speed Triple with carbs, only the last few made were jet black. Triumph Australia was around for 3 years before the first Speed Triple, though.

What's your VIN? That might clear it up.

Cheers,
-Kit

Ok thanks for the info guys, I have a '94 Speed Triple I scanned the letter from Triumph Australia for you to read. The wording "previously imported Triumph bikes" made me think that they weren't a full company at the time.

VIN SMTTC301DMS017177

I understand, the wording is a bit ambiguous. Knowing what I know now, though, I read that as saying your bike came in through unofficial channels, perhaps brought in by an English or Canadian immigrant.

One thing is for sure, though: with a VIN that low, it was without question Diablo Black.

Cheers,
-Kit
